Has anyone taken a gap semester?
Hi,
I'm in the Class of 2021 and I have enough credits to graduate a semester early. I had planned to travel before full-time work.
However, a class I really, really want to take is offered in alternating years - it's not available second semester this year, but will be next year.
I was just wondering how it would look if I took second semester off this year (before my summer internship) while still graduating on time otherwise? Would I be viewed as 'lazy' by the analysts/associates over the summer if I bring it up?
Thanks for the advice!
Why don't you just take the class 1st semester next year and take then graduate early?
My bad, I forgot to clarify that when it's a year that it's offered, it's still only offered in second semesters
Fuck that class. Buy a book or watch a video on YouTube and save the extra money.
Yeah i might have to agree, i couldnt imagine how a class could be this enticing to take
fair enough, but it would be the same cost since I need that semester's worth of credits to graduate, and I don't have to pay tuition during the gap
I guess it's just that I really want to be in a room with the guy who wrote the book
If that’s the case, you should take the class if you really want to. If your self conscious about your scenario, don’t talk about it and just pretend like you graduated like everyone else.
Yeah....unless this class is taught by a Nobel Laureate, I would just forget about it.
What is with all these people worrying about what and how people will view them as or how they will be judged?
Relax, no one cares.
In IB, you are constantly judged on the smallest and stupidest things. People try to extrapolate your entire personality based on nothing at all. It's one of the most frustrating parts of the business in my opinion. So, I totally get the concern. Not sure how warranted it is here but I get it.
I’m tryna do this to save money cuz my undergrad business school doesn’t allow people to graduate early. If I get a sick offer I wanna just spend next semester having fun on campus.
Don’t think people would care much. You were going to take a gap semester anyways, you’re just rearranging the order of things. Plus you seem to have a perfectly reasonable explanation.
Just a FYI, check your SA offer prior to deciding since some internships require you to be a full time student the semester prior to starting the internship.
It doesn't matter, people only look at class year. If you graduate early, you're class of 2020, but people will just assume you were 2016-2020. If you really want to take the class (some professors are just that good) then I recommend taking a gap semester to travel or study abroad and then go back to finish your degree. I'm graduating a semester early to travel on a budget and save money.
Know plenty of people that did this jr year - stuff like live in a ski resort for a season. Didn't hurt anyone I knew. Doesn't need to be flaunted and if brought up you can have a mature answer and frankly people likely be jealous and think its cool.
