have hated every job i have ever had

I have hated every job I ever had. Hey keep them a year or two then I cycle out. I don’t know how to solve the problem. I went to therapy and everything. I tried out different industries. Nothing seems palatable. And yeah I know that 80% of people don’t like their jobs. But I really hate working so much that I don’t know how to bring myself to do it again. I worked in real estate development, real estate PE, growth capital, did a rotation in equity research, a rotation in ECM, and a bit of time in fixed income sales, I worked for a couple tech companies, and for a family office. I have had 10 jobs in as many years. I just can’t seem to last because I just am so disinterested in the jobs that at some point I either quit or slack so much that I get fired and don’t care.  Not sure if anyone else has similar situation.

What are you passionate about? Either personally or professionally.

Start there, then figure out a way to make money doing something around it.

This.

Sounds like OP needs to stop cycling through finance roles and find something he actually enjoys.

As others have mentioned, maybe finance isn’t for you. Go talk to people in other fields you might be interested in and see if it’s a better fit. Your problem isn’t unique, lots of people can’t find their passion, or at least something they don’t dread doing. So go it there and see what you like.

Maybe @Malta"  could help you out, I know he left finance for another field.

I don’t know you or your specific situation but like I said, talk to people. If your not sure what you’d rather be doing other than finance, come up with a list of things that interest you, your hobbies, things of that sort. From there see where you can go. Maybe you like graphic design, well what can you do with it? How good are you? Can you get some certification that will help you get a job in the field? Maybe start a YouTube channel showcasing your work, teach a course... whatever will help you. I don’t know a thing about graphic design, just giving you an example. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific, but just put yourself out there and see what you like.

Similar boat my friend. Trapped at an earning level that I have grown accustomed to, but hate every minute of my job. Struggle daily with the prospect of finding employment in a field I find stimulating, but taking a 75%+ pay cut.

Happy to chat if you are interested in tech. I have hated so many jobs before, my last one I left just shy of a year because I couldn't take it anymore. I was so lost I talked to a ton of people from a variety of fields- attorneys (I considered going to law school), doctors (I considered post-bacc), real estate brokerage, corporate finance, even considered going to a no name consulting firm to try and go that route. While doing this I started learning to code and then decided I enjoyed that, I have a Q&A where I answered a few questions, and now am a Senior SDE/ SWE at a FinTech company on the west coast.

Tech also has a few interesting roles for those who are more extroverted (Account Executive, Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer) or for those more introverted (traditional SDE/ SWE with a thousand subcategories and specializations). But first you have to determine what you like and be honest about your personality.

I answered this exact question more detailed in my Q&A if you want to look at my post history.

My coworker went to Hack Reactor and he and I are in the same exact position, same pay band, do the exact same work, but he and I work on different teams within the organization. So I know there’s some that are top notch like Hack Reactor.

Maybe take a vacation and really think about things and your direction in life towards your passion.
