How I think I got a VC analyst position straight out of undergrad

I don't want to sound cocky I just know that I would want to know this info while I was applying. I had 0 networking this was all resume.

Major: Physics & Computer Science double major

GPA: 3.3 (didn't check)

College: Small liberal arts, non-non-target

Important experience:

  • 501(c) raised 30k
  • Meal delivery startup while a student made 3k sales
  • Entrepreneurship boot camp

Email to schedule first interview

Interview 1 (what I remember from zoom):

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why VC
  • What sorts of markets are you interested in (I looked at their portfolio and chose one, nonrecurring market and said I specialized in that which wasn't 100% a lie but I'm certainly not spending everyday researching ASICS)
  • Step me through your resume (I knew I had to sell CS so I literally didn't even answer this question and said why CS is good in VC
  • If you were to describe Firm Name how would you do it (mentioned they have a good amount of IPOs, mentioned they work as VCaaS not strictly VC)

Interview 2 (what I remember from zoom):

  • Tell me about yourself
  • He absolutely pounded me for finance experience, which I have little to none of so that's when I thought I blew it.
  • Asked me about funding for the startup which I said we got friends and family and 3k for the bootcamp
