I was approached by a presidential candidate today for help

Umm, so I was sitting in my office today and this 50-year-old guy I know knocks on my office door. He, umm, he asks me to help him launch his 2012 candidacy for the office of President of the United States of America. I'm not even joking. A guy today approached me asking me to help him launch his campaign for the U.S. presidency.

Given that I work at one company now (joined recently), and run 2 of my own businesses and spend the rest of my time trying to sleep with my on-again-off-again 18-year-old gf, helping a broke former used car salesman with 250 facebook contacts run as a libertarian independent for a national election being held in 14 months is not exactly my idea of a profitable venture.

What's crazy is that the guy is dead, absolutely serious, so much so that I'm going to have to have one of my Republican campaign staffer buddies call him and tell him what an idiotic plan this is. Praying that his wife will tell him to get real before I have to be a complete dick and bash his lifelong dream (which is what he told me). FML.

If this was a guy I knew that I considered a friend, I would have just told him he was an idiot right there

I have a cousin brother who has been running for state elections since past 10 years. He is a Ivy graduate in politics and law (or something like that). He explained me that he is NOT looking to win but to slowly increase the number of voters he has over a period of 3-4 of elections before actually having a shot at winning and he has increased the voter base over time. But that is state level lowly politics definitely NOT for the president. lol

IlliniProgrammer:
Is his name Newt Gingrich?

I am actively trying to avoid politics right now because I figure 2012 is too far away to spend my time on and everything else is a loss right now. But, I saw 30 seconds of the debate last night, I was actually shocked to see Newt there! I had no idea he was running.

Probably a bad sign for him.

This is a case study of knowing when to leave out certain information (they call this "noise"). Point is, a delusional wacko is pressuring me to help him run for President...of the United States...in 2012. It takes some major--delusions? arrogance?--to do that.
Yup, definitely Newt. Whatever happened to those laptops he wanted to give homeless people?

Then edit out the whole middle paragraph if you're so upset at how "hijacked" this thread has gotten. It's completely irrelevant and the post reads fine without it. It detracts from the subject of your post. Unless of course, it's the 1st and 3rd paragraphs that are the filler. Cool story bro.

No, you were approached by a guy with a shitty idea.

If he registers his name for the elections, not many 50 year old - huge underdogs are going to run for elections. I have helped some people in election campaigns and I know these kind of things actually makes a difference when media scrutinize the smallest details. That too in the "Google-age".

But really I don't care.

not to hijack the thread, but what's the best way to get an 18 y o gf? should i go to a college freshmen orientation? or maybe just sneak into a local high school prom?

I was about to write a long-assed list of deplorable ways to get 18 year old girlfriends, but then couldn't hit the post button because it felt so frigging skeevy. Congratulations on getting me to write something so despicable that even I couldn't post it.
