What advice do you have for someone who's coming from a nontarget? No matter how good my GPA is, it seems like my resume is just getting filed. I've been applying, cold calling like crazy and practicing interview questions. But I can't even land an interview, so I just feel stuck. I almost want to give up and pursue to do some developmental work at a corporate company at this point.
PE_Reaper is wrong dont listen to him. Search Fund experience directly relates to smaller PE funds, the experience can be extremely valuable depending on the assigned tasks. Besides a search fund internship looks better then no internship.
Thank you very much for your input. I feel like not many people even know what a search fund is (or they know but they just don't know it's called a search fund). So, I haven't been getting many responses.
Search fund experience will definitely help. It will help build network since its similar to venture capital as it involves due diligence, sourcing, research, outreach, etc

Are they fully funded? Is this their first search? Do they have qualifications to run and manage a business within their targeted industries?
If you dont have other options, all of these questions are irrelevant, but if you, these will help you evaluate your options
I'd add to this - where are the founders coming from. If they are coming from IB/PE->Top B-School like a lot of them are they might be willing to tap their network for you after a good summer.
Both started out at Goldman as Analysts and moved on to public equity for a while. Then worked as associates at PE shop and now attempting to open up their own.
Fully funded. Relatively new fund but has successfully acquired one company. One of the MDs has a PhD in Engineering. Super smart guy.
And I recently landed an offer with a f500 company as a financial analyst intern. So I need to decide between the two. But tbh the f500 internship sounds terribly boring. Just looking at one company's financials sounds awful.
When you say one acquisition was made already do you mean the MD has already exited? How many employees? Sounds like a PE fund within the lower-middle market space, not a search fund, unless he exited already
I went to a non-target as well and got an opportunity to intern with a search fund and it was the greatest experience, I was there until we executed a transaction. I learned so much from the other interns and the managing partner. I got into PE back office upon graduation but I am currently in process of making a move from back office to front office due completely to my search fund experience.
Did you source the deal that they executed? And also, I'm afraid that I may not be able to have any chance working with actual models or valuations. Would this be an issue? Like if my resume says that I only did industry research and cold call, would it still be a respectable internship?
