If you could pick any Daily Driver car - what you you pick?
I saw a McLaren today and thought it would be a sick DD. I’m also a big fan of Lotus GT cars and know others are obsessed with having a 911 Turbo. I like Lamborghinis more than Ferraris, but think the Enzo Ferrari is sick. The F40 and F50 are classic. If you could pick one daily driver, which would you pick?
I’m a big fan of M series too. I like the size of the M3 - the M4, M5, M8 are cool but like smaller. The M2 looks perfect for NYC.
Not that I advocate having a car in NYC, but if driving the M2 would be convenient. Or a chauffeur in a Rolls Royce or Maybach.
For a daily I want something that has a presence, fast, awd, and automatic. So I would choose turbo s as well 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Taycan
Can confirm it is absolutely absurd, super fun, and handles like a beauty.
I think the 911 Turbo (S) is probably the best daily driver car out there (for fun anyway). It’s an absolute monster but not too difficult to drive. Modern GT3s are comfortable as well.
Others would be Taycan Turbo (S), Audi R8, AMG GTS for those fun car categories that are still able to be driven daily.
G Wagons have a certain cool factor about them, same with Rolls but they’re overhyped imo. I’m not a fan of crazy SUVs (Urus, new Ferrari and Aston etc).
But all in all, I’d choose a GT3 or Turbo S and I’m not sure which.
The 2021 Turbo S is insanely fast, and without question the fastest car I've ever been in. It was fully loaded and came in at an MSRP of around $275k. A friend borrowed it from a trust fund baby who sold it same year for a $20,000 profit. Turbo S's are like almost too fast. Made my M3 look like a Dodge Caravan. You could go so fast on one city block I genuinely feared for my safety. This is coming from a guy who has been a passenger in cars topped out at max speeds multiple times.
DD for Performance: I would probably DD a 2023 C8 Z06 or a Turbo assuming I could go over 80 on my way to work.
DD for Comfort (But still with an emphasis on performance): Otherwise, probably an S63 Coupe because my old E350 was the most comfortable car Ive ever been in, and I have to imagine their modern S class gets the job done.
Ferrari ff
Doug DeMuro tested tons of cars and chose the Ford GT as his DD.
If I ever become a heavy hitter, I'm going with the Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman -- chauffeured, of course. Who wants to drive in New York, anyway?
Wow man, that’s style. Definitely heavy window tint.
Thanks man, I've wanted a 600 for years. Definitely has the classic style that I love.
One car, and one car only? An Audi RS6 Avant / Taycan Cross Turbo. The Tesla plaids are pretty nutty too for your inner five year old. Otherwise I'd have to pick a top drawer every day pinnacle of pragmatism that sitll has some gumption like a Durango SRT or Range Rover Autobiography and then a proper sports car for outside the city like a new Emira or M4 CS or 911 GT3.
Can’t fit golf clubs in a Lambo. It’s a real issue that I wish they’d get creative with. Some Ferraris can though, so I’d prolly lean in that direction.
In the event you want to avoid being looked at too much, just buy the C8 corvette.
Nuh uh! Appleby used to roll up all over the PGA tour in his Gallardo with his clubs riding shotgun.
You really think people aren't going to be checking out your C8? They're going to look at it and then the twelve year old in the SUV next to you is going to gripe at his mom because he wanted it to be a "real cool car, like a Ferrari". Granted he won't understand you only spent 1/3 the money on a sports car that's just as quick.
I guess that works, can’t take the cart girl home with you though lol
Which model McLaren?
Daily driver; Tesla model 3, Ferrari 355 and an 997 turbo S.
I know some cats that DD'ed McLaren MP4-12C's and had no complaints. But a F355 as a daily? If you're going to daily it you'd have to budget the maintenance on that thing like they do aircraft, by hours used and not mileage like regular cars.
I actually like the 650S, yes, I heard all the stories about the F355 but I would still get one. Mp4 12c has issues.
Btw, Isaiah definitely deserves props on using the REAL name of the Enzo Ferrari.
Macan GTS
Practicality aside, I'd love to daily drive something fucking ridiculous like a 360 Modena CS (with the gated manual).
The 360 was one of my dream cars growing up... amongst the Jag XJ220, F40, Diablo, CLK GTR, and the F1 LM.
My neighbor had a 360 Modena and used to hand wash it in our parking lot. I was also a fan of them when I was little and just think it’s a clean looking car.
Cayenne GTS
I went through this exercise a few yrs ago and ended with a 911 turbo. Tried a bunch of other options but the supercars are a pain to daily drive (in nyc). Still considering a db11 or Roma, but I’m happy with the choice so far.
Either a triple locked Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 done over by ICON or a 2022 Land Cruiser Twin Turbo GR model, not available U.S. Market but I think MSRP is about $140K.
Let me guess, uh8mud? Because ih8mud. And yes, the new LC isn't coming to the US. But lots of spitballing out there that a version of it will show up as the bastardization that has become the modern 4runner.
Yeah, I have an 80 series now but no where in as good shape as I would like, I am going to install rear aussie lockers and call it a day. You're also probably right about the 4runner, it's getting a facelift 2023 and presumably a better engine. My biggest gripe about it was the engine and it not obviously being a land cruiser. Factory rear locker is nice and if they had a turbo in it, would be a good daily.
That's two votes for an RS6 now. One more and we can declare a pattern...
Rover Sport SVR or x5m comp.
I’m a big fan of the X5 M Competition - I think the car looks badass and it has all the luxury features.
I am a huge AM fan (big on Bond series). I feel for a DD, R8-Aston Martin-RS7 (Audi).
My goals for upgrading/purchasing rides.
I was looking at a small SUV - between Lexus ux200h and x1 BMW as my first "real" grown-up car. Given gas prices and cost wise, Lexus will be my choice.
Next would be AMG series.
After that R8 or AM or RS7 (or better yet - 911 Porsche).
I love cars as much as everyone else. Thoughts?
If you're going for a small SUV, why not an XC40? All the reviews seem to put it at the top of the small SUV pile for the same price range of the Lexus and BMW.
Thank you for the suggestion. I had never considered the XC40 by Volvo. You are right, it does have high ratings too. I will look into it. What are your thoughts on the AMG versus BMW M series?
Reading your tastes, you obviously want something fun which you can also pull hard on the weekends. That being said, if it's a DD then think AM Vantage/Porsche 911/MB AMG GT/Audi R8/BMW M8 (I know they stopped selling these but fun as hell) assuming that's a price range you're good with. I've driven all of those and they all have drive modes for comfort which do just fine in city settings while having settings to make them super fun outside.
Most of the cars mentioned in the OP are too low for NYC in my opinion. I don’t live there anymore. I went with an E63s wagon and love it. I used to have Audis, but they were too slow to bring the RS6 over for my timeline. A fast wagon is the way to go if you ever want a family, plus both are AWD. Sounds like the E63 is no more for the US though. My dealer told me that V8 MBs are basically done in our market.
On an IB analyst salary (assuming 180k comp): BMW M3
On an IB associate salary (assuming 330k comp): Porsche 911 (base model though)
IB VP (assuming 475k comp): Pre-owned Ferrari California or Aston Martin Vantage
IB MD (assuming 1.5M comp): Pre-owned McLaren GT
a california... tf?
You don’t like the California?
Looks like I’m the chump who’d pick a Tahoe or Escalade for a daily driver. Go to work, go to the gym, and go to the grocery store/Home Depot all in one trip rain, snow, or shine.
If I could wave a magic wand and have any cool car for a daily - 2JZ Supra.
Escalades are nice.
The cheapest, roomiest and most reliable truck that you can buy used and fully depreciated.
Never invest in a depreciable asset.
Ever.
Nobody said a car was an investment. What’s the point of working hard and making good money if you never spend it on something you like?
Pininfarinha Battista. Uncultured swines.
GMC Sierra 3500 HD XL Denali Double Cab
S63 AMG
Sick
that sweet V12
Instantaneous transportation portal.
Wait, we already fucking WFH.
In that case any Aston Martin
I think other people have already mentioned it, but honestly any sort of Porsche like the Turbo S or Taycan. Luxury + performance + not outrageously expensive, what more do you want in a DD? I think other cars like Lamborghini or Ferrari are a little overrated, not to mention you’ll be paying out of your ass for all the inevitable problems you’ll be having with their unreliability. Hoping to buy a Porsche by my mid 30s, I think that would be nice.
250 LM
Daily driver? For current production cars, Aston Martin DBS.
Weekend car? Ferrari F50.
haha nice - DBS is classy - F50 is legendary
Range Rover.
1969 Camaro RS / SS or pristine 1989 navy grand Wagoneer
Ewww the wagoneer why
Beautiful American power
If I was driving myself - either a 2022 Mercedes AMG SL or a Porsche 911 Convertible
If I was being chauffeured - the new Maybach S Class
Currently have a frozen black 22' M4 competition xDrive. It is by far my favorite car yet.
Modern cars have gotten really really good. You can't seem to go wrong with anything these days.
If money was no object I'd have a GT2RS and would daily drive the shit out of it. That will bring a smile to my face that $400k won't otherwise.
I also saw a SF90 in person the other day and that thing is hotttt
Sick
DD: 911 turbo S | money doesn't matter: CLK GTR | what I've got that works right now: 17 forester XT touring
Hahahaha the CLK GTR as DD
My brother in law wants to get a 911 Turbo S too. Would be a nice DD.
reliable, quick as hell, not as flashy as exotics but similar/better performance.. lines up to me
Audi Q3; perfect NYC mobile
A mercedes sls amg
Nice choice. I kind of like a fat wing on this car.
So fire, one can only dream
