Imperial MSc Finance vs LSE MSc Risk and Finance

Hi Everyone.

I have an offer to study Imperial MSc Finance this year. But I am also thinking about waiting 1 year and applying to LSE's Risk and Finance for next year's entry (I believe I have a good chance). Here are some of my considerations:

Imperial MSc Finance
- Flagship Finance programme at Imperial
- Imperial is well known but not so much in Finance

LSE MSc Risk and Finance
- LSE is more well known in Finance (especially in Asia)
- Risk and Finance is not the best programme at LSE (Finance, Finance & Private Equity and Finance & Economics are much more selective)
- Have to wait 1 year and apply

My goal is to work in finance in equities research, Asset Management or corporate finance (UK or Asia). Any opinions on which is the better option? Thanks!

I have lived with a few Imperial grads and they place incredibly well in finance - one guy said approx. 70% of his class ended up in finance jobs and that was just with an engineering undergrad, no finance masters.

In my opinion LSE will serve you better than Imperial, but I'm not sure if the difference is worth putting your masters off for a year. You could be 1yr through a graduate programme by the time you finish the LSE master, is that worth it (I'd say it also depends on what you have planned for that year if you go for LSE).

Finally, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. You haven't actually got an offer at LSE - I would be leaning heavily towards Imperial.

Imperial is v. highly rated for engineering and computer science. LSE is v. highly rated for business-style courses.

Im guessing your looking into a career IB, in which case LSE is #1 in the UK and probably Europe IMO. That said, Imperial still gets recruiters on campus regularly.

Why the hell would you go to some bush-league school like that?

My boy went to ITT tech and got a sick medical billing job right out of school, OCR like you wouldn't belive homey.
