Indiana vs UofT Rotman Commerce Undergrad

I have been admitted into UofT Rotman Commerce and Indiana University. However, I have not been directly admitted into Indiana's Kelley School of Business.

If I were to go to Indiana, I would try to get into the Kelley school by transferring into it as a freshman.

Now if you were in my situation considering that I just want to have some work experience (I am not trying to establish a very serious career. I only want max 4 years of work experience).

Which university would you pick and why?

I am aware that Big 4 firms recruit at both places.

The main questions are:

Is it worth taking the risk of going to Indiana?
Is Rotman really inferior in terms of opportunities offered considering that Canada offers post-graduation work permits to international students?

Do you just want to have the work experience so you can take over your family's business? If so, I would suggest UT Rotman because you are simply going to university and getting a "job" for the sake of having legitimate experience and proving that you are a good candidate to takeover family business. You are looking for prestige to impress ppl. UT Rotman does just that (especially if you are asian canadian).

If none of what I said applies to you, then I need to get more sleep and just ignore what I said!

Well you have identified that I wish to join hands with my father in his family business. I am not an Asian Canadian. I am an Indian person from Hong Kong.

I want good work experience after which, I wish to get an MBA. After getting an MBA, I want to join my father.

Anyways, what I want to know is if Indiana is worth going to if I have not been directly admitted. Also, I have heard that Rotman Commerce is very hard and that UofT intentionally lowers your grades. Is that true?

Also, what do you guys think about Miami University's Farmer School of Business? I got directly admitted there.

Hey, interested to know your stats, i'm a direct admit for Kelley. Would like to consider U of T rotman as well. How's the recognition for Kelley like in Hongkong? I'm from Singapore and it isn't that well recognized, despite it being a top 15 UG program in the states.

Kelley is well-recognised generally I believe in areas that it should be recognised. By that, I mean that while Indiana itself does not have the best of reputations, the Kelley brandname is quite strong. Since you have been directly admitted into Kelley, I would strongly suggest that you go there and get 2-3 years of work experience on your plate before you go back to Singapore (if you wish to do so.) Do you have any National Service commitments?

As for UofT Rotman, I know that it has a strong brandname too because of its MBA programme. However, I don't think you can apply to it so late if you already haven't. Since you've been directly admitted to Kelley, you should probably go.

I would like to get some work experience as well, however it seems that the economic climate does not permit internationals to obtain working visas h1bs very easily, which i feel is the main reason why i would want to study in the US in the first place. I've completed my national service, thanks for asking, so glad its over! lol Canada is a better option in this sense as it will provide 3 years to seek employment/training upon graduation. Cost wise it would be similar. I've been told on my other thread that paying 150k for Kelley is simply not worth it, what is your take on this. Are you still waiting for your decision regarding your direct admit? I applied really late so I couldnt apply for other schools like Umichigan etc, hence i'm stuck in this predicament.

If you are taking loans, it is certainly not worth it. I sincerely think that you can also get opportunities in a great place like Singapore. Go somewhere there and then get some experience and then go to the USA for your MBA.

The tuition would be funded by my parents, but i think that saving the money for an mba would be a good idea as well. All the best for your decision, but why are you not considering universities like hku since you are in hongkong? it is one of the best in asia.

My parents are paying for me as well. However, if your parents are willing to pay, go to Kelley. I thought you would be in debt. If that is the case, then don't.
