Not a hard decision. These are either Trump staffers or internet research agency employees getting paid 10 cents per comment. They will spam threads even if you ignore them with the same campaign slogans every time. Also, there seems to be no line in terms of what becomes hate speech. After all APAE has contributed, how do you think he would feel about every thread being spammed with "black lives matter is a terrorist organization comprised of violent thugs that need to be exterminated from society"?
Same lines every time: Biden dementia, dem run cities allowing blacks to destroy america, radical socialists, DNC steal election not Trump, these things are straight copy pasting meaningless campaign slogans. Can also throw in a bunch of 16 year old "associate 2 in IBD"s telling everyone that their opinion is worthless, shut the fuck up intern, dumb lib just go kill yourself, and all that good stuff.
This stuff is spam and hate that chases away your long time contributors. You stop new users from posting links, ban nigerian princes offering visas, and have banned guys like theaccountingmajor for a lot less. Just IP ban these guys - it's not a complicated decision. You're not shutting out conservative voices, because 4chan trolls are not conservative.

I'm a conservative leaning libertarian (ish) and I go around criticizing just about everyone and tearing down dumb arguments left and right. You assume that the "dumbasses" are here to have serious discussions. They are not. There is a very clear and easy to draw line between conservatives here to have genuine discussion, and MAGA warriors here to copy paste campaign slogans.
Freedom of speech is reserved for government forums, not for companies like WSO. They can moderate the discussion however they want. Don't see why they can't moderate this spam like everything else. If they decide that APAE should not have to scroll through a bunch of comments on how blacks are destroying America, so be it. I don't really see that as suppressing opinions but to each their own.

On a serious note, I hate people who treat this like Twitter and just spew out nonsense to get attention. But honestly, what can we do? WSO is kind of a self selecting forum, highly educated people tend to be interested in finance, so on average the quality of discussions are much better than in say Twitter.
Now a lot of that has seem to have changed. Maybe because we're at a critical time in world history where people can't think straight when it comes to politics. Maybe it's bunch of fake accounts.
For the latter, Patrick can just require everyone to verify their work or school emails. But we can't do much about the first. How do you know if someone's just spewing out nonsense or not? You actually have to read into it. Sometimes people make long winded posts, some are filled with BS, some are actually well written. Some posts are short, but still some are just BS and some are actually well written. It's hard to tell.
Also don't forget that there are plenty of liberal bigots on WSO as well.
No, the dumbasses are here to make OPs like yours. You're technically right about Freedom of Speech being specifically for protection from the Government. But I think Patrick and Andy know that their allowance of it here is what keeps this site growing in popularity at a constant clip and not turning into a complete shithole like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
APAE is a grown ass man with more important things to worry about that what trolls says on a forum. He's too busy finding himself a smart, driven, supermodel-looking wife or something. And for the record, while I haven't seen every comment on WSO, I'd bet no one is seriously claiming black people are destroying America. And even if they are, fuck them and move on there's no questions they're in the minority. If anything they're probably saying BLM is burning down the country, which by their own admission they will do unless they get what they want. I dunno man, sounds like terrorism to me when you threaten people and follow up with the use of intentional violence for political purposes. One of their biggest talking points is literally the destruction of the nuclear family (which they conveniently just pulled from their site), which dozens have studies have shown is one of the biggest contributors to and exacerbators of poverty, particularly among the black community, in the modern world. But keep clinging to your blatantly false talking point and acting like Trump supporters are somehow racist when their guy has the highest black and latino support of any Republican candidate in the last century.

I was running once. I saw an elderly couple who briefly took off their masks because no one was around within 100 ft. Some asshole on a bike comes along and shouts out "Masks on the faces!".
Another story while I was running. I have my mask on my chin when I'm not around others while running. Some woman who's like 10 feet away from me stares me down and gestures me to put on my mask. I mean WTF? I was socially distancing and I sure as hell wasn't breathing at her.

As one could easily tell from my post history, which I have because I'm not anonymous, I think anonymous posting should be removed in off topic (I am fine with it elsewhere so people can just ask questions without making an account). However, I don't support IP banning the hard dick MAGA people. They are allowed to voice their opinions wherever they want. I would rather them have a username so they'd be forced to stand by their comments, but it is what it is I guess.
Also to be fair, haven't seen @APAE on here in ages, but he definitely is one of the best and most informative posters on this site.

This seems overly harsh. How about just not letting people post anonymously? Everyone has a right to be a bigot or an idiot or a troll, but by the same token everyone else has a right to judge them for it, and ignore their future comments accordingly. Allowing people to spew nonsense and stupidity without even having to live it down in their (otherwise also anonymous) account handle is encouraging trolls, I agree. If you aren't willing to say something on here that you wouldn't say to your boss, it shouldn't be said, and I agree any steps taken to bring those into alignment are good ones. Just silencing anyone who doesn't agree isn't the right solution, no matter how dumb, ignorant, or prejudiced half the "conservative" teenagers sitting in their parents basement seem to be.
I agree with you. I do not believe in censorship. Aside from violating the rules on WSO or the law, a person should not be censored. There are three solutions on the WSO platform to deal with people who do not share your opinions: MS, the down arrow. or discuss the issues.

I disagree with the idea that every comment a person writes on this site that same person should feel comfortable saying in front of his or her boss. This isn't LinkedIn or Handshake. This is the off topic forum on a social media site. Many of the users use this place to blow some steam off after a long day at work (and for some long = 15/16 hours). It shouldn't be a surprise then that strong, blunt, and crude language gets tossed around. Obviously there are some comments that would raise alarm even in a friendly situation (serious death threats,psycopath behavior, etc.) but I'm pretty sure the site already monitors for that. There is a flag button on the bottom of each comment so extreme outliers can get reported.
I agree and disagree. I would agree more if there was a way to block someone because then you do not have to see anything that person writes and they cannot see what you write.
Except this site isn't a place for you to "blow off steam." It's supposed to be a place for advice and career support. The Off Topic forum is supposed to be for discussion about things that don't fit into those categories. No one cares if you drop a bunch of curse words in here, but if you want to start telling me that black people have less intelligence than white people or that there is a secret cabal of Jews running the world, you should expect to be judged and criticized in a commensurate manner.

I am so confused, because there's a bunch of people here that actually take time to write serious responses that seem to be misunderstanding what I mean.
