Is it worth it???
Hey guys I’m gonna be really blunt. I’m a rising junior in high school and really want to find an opportunity in finance to make the most money. I have a mix of A’s and B’s(slightly more A’s). This year I’m taking 2 AP, one honors, and 2 accelerated(between regular and honors) classes. My extra curriculars aren’t the best as they are minimal(mostly dealing with soccer, Model UN, and volunteering at the library), I’ve been studying to take the ACT in October and am set for a score of about 32. With all this in mind I’m fully aware that my chances at a target or even a semi target are slim to none. I really want to get a job on Wall Street and want to make sure that I can make as much money as possible and eventually work my way up through the ranks. I want to know if it’s worth pursuing this dream or if I should look elsewhere. I’m very lost right now and any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks a ton.
You realistically need to get your G.P.A as high as you can and apply for a target school. You have a chance with a great G.P.A and a good ACT score, 32 is pretty good for 36 being a perfect score. You have a very good chance but it will depend where to go to college/university. Networks and connections at college/university are vital to get a Wall-Street job.
Where could I realistically get into with those stats? It seems like everyone on this site has such high stats and it seems like if I can’t get into a top 30 college then I’m doomed. Right now it appears I could get into most schools ranked 30th or below comparing my stats to others on this site and others. This really makes me lose hope and makes me feel very lost...
With your mindset of "making as much money as possible" you quite possibly won't make it past the analyst rank.
It’s not that I want to make the most money, it’s that I want to get a job on Wall Street and rise through the ranks. Money, although not the most important thing to me, matter a bit and I want to make a good chunk of it. It would be very helpful if I could get some advice as to where to go with my life because I’m very lost. As I mentioned earlier, it doesn’t seem like I’m competitive for targets or even semi-targets and this makes me feel like I have no hope in Wall Street investment baking...
You should do more research on different careers as finance isn’t the only path that compensates we’ll. Figure out what you like. As for undergrad, it matters less where you go as it does what you make of it. Yeah, a target is great, but it’s not the only way to IB.
