KBW thoughts

What are your thoughts on KBW as a firm now that it has been acquired by Stifel? Is it a good place to be at after undergrad? Does it have good deal flow? Is it better than being at a middle market IB bank? What’s the culture and exit opps like post internship and post analyst?

Thanks

The old threads on KBW are still relevant. I don't work there, but have talked with several Analysts/Associates. Not sure how much you know about FIG, but the NYC Depositories group gets hammered at the analyst and associate level. The culture seems to be good at the lower levels, but MD's seem to be tough depending on group/location.

They are well respected within the FIG space for sure. Deal flow sounds to be steady, a lot of things happening within banks/financial institutions as a whole.

Can't comment on whether it's better than a MM bank. Depends what you are looking for.

Thanks, would working at KBW be better than Stifel for example as an analyst? What are exit opps after intenrship/analyst at KBW?

KBW is owned by Stifel, and is their FIG arm. They operate basically independently as far as I know, although coming in as a first year analyst everyone does training together, and you could be placed in a KBW group, as well as a Stifel group.

OP, it depends if you want to be in FIG or not. It's all dependent on what you are looking for. Can't speak on exit ops but a quick LinkedIn search to see who used to work at KBW is easy.

MM FIG specialist. Exit options are limited compared to more traditional groups due to nature of working on FIG deals (see FIG groups at other banks)
