"Let's meet when I get back." How do I follow up on something like that?

I know the answer to this might be so painfully obvious and it isn't even specific to finance but I am socially inept when it comes to these things that I need to ask.

A very good friend of our family introduced me to a Partner af a boutique. Family friend and Partner both told me that they go back a really long way and FF (who is more senior) implied that he could get Partner to do him any favor. Partner gave me his card and told me to contact him. I emailed him a few days later and told him that I was, in fact, interested in working for him (probably too forward but that was pretty much implied when we were introduced anyway). He said that he was travelling at the moment but he would be back on the 28th and we could meet afterwards.

Well it's now March 3 as I type this and I was wondering, how do I go about this? Should I just go ahead and email/call him? If so, should I just go "Hey, about that meeting..." Or do I wait for him to tell me when we could meet?

Like I said, I'm socially inept and probably wouldn't even have been able to network had FF not introduced me to this guy so I apologize if I'm asking a stupid question.

First off, I would at the very least, give it until the middle of next week. The 28th was a Thursday, so I'm sure he had more pertinent things to deal with when he got back from traveling.

If you don't hear back by mid-week, go ahead and send a message or give him a call -- whichever you're more comfortable with.

Obviously don't start off with "Hey, about that meeting", rather ask him how his trip was, what his schedule is looking like, and when he'd be free to meet with you.

Guys c'mon, do you need a blueprint for everything... It's just human interactions, not quantum physics. Just drop him an email a week after he said he is coming back, possibly on a weekend/evening so he's not distracted at work and doesn't forget about it immediately. You don't need to worry so much, trust me...

I was thinking the same thing. I would honestly think about what kind of jobs you (the OP) can do well in if you're so socially awkward that you have drafting and sending emails. Unless you correct things like this, you're going to have a difficult time in almost any job.
