LSE MSc Political Science & Political Economy vs Cass MSc Finance

Hi,

I did my undergrad in Finance at a non-target and now planning to do my postgrad in London.

These are the only offers I received from schools in London, but I am unsure which one would significantly impact my career.

LSE: MSc Political Science & Political Economy

Cass: MSc Finance

I am mainly interested in Strategy Consulting and M&A, and I have internship experiences in Private Equity (Sovereign Wealth Fund) and Venture Capital (Small firm).

I would appreciate it if you guys could provide some insight on this matter.

LSE has the brand name but the subject sounds like it sucks honestly - not sure if the LSE brand name supersedes the fact that your subject is not a 'target'. Cass is not a target but if you network well enough you can probably land a MM IB offer. I'd be tempted to go with LSE but you won't learn anything relevant on the course like you would at Cass...

Consider the costs and hopefully someone else can be more helpful regarding what your chances are with that course at LSE.

Good luck!

Exactly my thoughts!

The programme at LSE is ~8K cheaper, but I guess this amount is not significant enough in this case as it will be a one-time, long-term investment for my career.

It offers some good courses, but I'm unsure if that will make a difference when the programme title may seem irrelevant to the recruiters.

I just mentioned the ones I am particularly interested in.

Core:
Quantitative Analysis for Political Science

Game Theory for Political Science

Political Science and Political Economy: Current Issues

Elective:

Game Theory for Research

Applied Quantitative Methods for Political Science

Behavioural Political Economy

Applied Regression Analysis

Multivariate Analysis and Measurement

Causal Inference for Observational and Experimental Studies

The Political Economy of Trade

Political Economy

I get what the guy above is saying but unfortunately you can’t rationalise it. LSE is just > Cass, and studying a relevant course simply doesn’t change anything. Course does matter slightly at the Master’s level, but relevant experience still takes precedence over anything else
