Macquarie S&T
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone (either currently working, former, or knows of someone) who has worked in the markets division for Macquarie? From what I’ve read they really specialize in commodities, etc.. Was curious if anyone had insight about how well they do and if it’s a good spot to be.
If its in commodities (especially their gas desk or metals) than yes its a a very good place to be. If its in equities, I'd take a different option.
Commodities is the best franchise overall in the biz.
They are a top 5 natural gas marketer and great guys overall. I would take that role in a heartbeat
Can vouch for ags, good guys over there
Saw posts about macq’s ib group paying below street. Does their S&T arm pay below street as well or is it more competitive given the better rep?
No. I know of analysts there getting 2x base bonuses this year (keep in mind their commodity desks did very well this year). If the analysts are getting 200% bonus I imagine the people actually making the money are really getting paid. Also, in general you aren't rotating around desks at macqarie, you're hired onto a specific desk which means you end up in a risk taking role a lot earlier.
Do you know what the base pay happens to be?
Does anyone else find this absolutely crazy. Can’t imagine a bank giving $250k to analysts even in a great year. Is this normal for when a desk outperforms or anyone else see comp like this at a bank?
Hard to define "street". They pay below other merchants in commodities for example...but much safer "range of comp".
Also, I don't know if you care about this or not, but apparently work-life tends to be better relative to other banks from what I've seen.
have ping pong table in office

where do they stand on fx and rates?
Very small FICC team in London
Any insight on their London office? Is it decent
