MS Menlo
Hi all, I know MS Menlo has historically been a great franchise but wanted to get some updated thoughts here.
What has the culture been like thru Covid? Have a ton of analysts left?
What have they been working on / how have they trended reputation wise? Also, what are exits like - I imagine you can get anything you want in PE or Growth?
Sweaty asf get ready to get grinded. Look at analysts and they usually list the deals they worked on in their experience section
Thanks for the insight!

Total sweatshop. One of the better groups at MS, but you are going to get worked to the bone. Terrible culture. Still, it's a cool group if you are into tech.
Source: My roommate is a 2nd yr analyst at MS Menlo.
I wouldn’t equate long hours = terrible culture. Naturally, the correlation is high but still.
Personally have heard great things about the culture. Perks of being a top group - you can afford to be nice to each other instead of competing for (deal) scraps.
I’ve also heard good things about the culture and had positive interactions with a lot of people there as well
If you aren't looking to grind going into IB, then what are you looking for?? If you're going to work banking hours and like tech, its a great place to be. That group has incredible deal flow, protected saturdays (other than live work), and exit opportunities to the best PE and growth shops in the tech space.
I hate people like you
why? monkey123@7 is so positive
Ohh got it so you went into this industry for the work life balance - how's that going for you?
Agree with @monkey123@7 above.
Responding to the original questions:
1. Culture through COVID: firm has provided dinner budgets, WFH stipends, instituted protected weekends. Haven't heard of much turnover during COVID
2. Can find deals online they've been working on.
3. Exits are fine. Can also find those online.
Yes - They recently brought in a new group COO who has really transformed the group's culture. It used to be a shit show with analysts leaving after a few months, but now the analysts atleast feel somewhat heard.
The analyst staffer only spends 25% of their time on deals 75% is on staffing / group support, I think this may be a new thing
Are the protected weekends and saturdays actually enforced? Assume with groups like this there's always something live
Wondering the same, isn’t there also a wellness weekend or something that’s no emails Friday through Monday?
Anyone have info on the M&A group within MS Menlo? Heard that it’s a recent change. Do you recruit directly into the M&A or do you get placed into it at some point after you join?
Placed into it after you join. No distinction during the internship from what I hear
Do you know when that placement typically occurs? Is it within your first analyst year or later on
