My friend in MO JPM Japan doesn't know the term "Bulge bracket"?
So I was catching up with a friend of mine who works in a middle office role at JP Morgan Japan. During our conversations I had said bulge bracket and he had no idea what I was talking about. Is bulge bracket not a common term used outside of the US or is he just clueless?
By JPM, does he mean Chase? And by MO, does he mean teller?
It is a common term outside of the US
It is a part of the common banking terminology. I think every banker in India would know the term :)
What are the functions of his job exactly?
Something to do with trade support and derivatives. Yeah I was scratching my head when he said he has never heard that term used before at work.
my Analyst interviewer at JPM Private Banking in Geneva didn't know what a Universal bank was. After I said the term, he pointed out that other big American banks operate globally as well! I don't even know where to begin with this one.... good thing JPM'ers think they are the hottest thing since sliced bread.
If your friend is Japanese then that explains it. I lived there for 6 years and worked with the Japanese major banks(my clients). English is not their strong suit(but neither is mine(just in case some smarty pants finds a spelling or gramatical error)). Which leaves jobs for people like me~
Your friend works in middle office. Why do you expect him to know anything?
disturbing!
