Networking for Non-targets

I am trying to get a career in trading, s&t, HF, prop, mkt makers whatever. Unfortunately, no success so far and I am graduating from Msc Finance in a couple months.

I have always pushed on networking on LinkedIn but I never got an interview because of that.

This is the question: how should I network on LinkedIn? Should I send invite to HRs or to Traders? How should I approach them? Should I ask them for an interview immediately?

Plus: do you know which companies (with trading desks) are more keen on giving a chance to non targets? (Europe office)

Not a trader, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

When I was recruiting for IB, I did a series of things, but I mostly focused on emailing current Analysts. Even from a non-target, if you are certain about your story and know why you want to be a trader, you should be able to articulate this to someone working a trading desk and get a few adequate responses.

HR can help, but be specific about exactly what you are looking for with respect to emailing HR. They'll want to know that you are adamant about getting your current position before connecting you with someone else.

There will eventually come a time where you ask to interview, but do not do this right away. Get to know a few people at whatever company, and then feel free to ask for one.
