On a scale of 1 to fucked how 10 am I?

Hi guys I think I might've made a terrible decision. I'm a senior at target and will be starting full-time in corporate banking at a (JPM/Citi/BofA). I chose this over smaller boutique investment banks because at the time I believed it would be easy to move over to the IB side because there is a lot of crossover and I have seen many people on linkedin follow the same path.

Now looking back at it, was it a bad idea to take that gamble when my goal has always been IB?

If anyone has any advice/experience on how to move over to the IB side from corp-banking I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks!

Whether you're fucked or not doesn't matter. You've made your decision so just focus on moving out and figuring out what steps you should take and not how fucked you are

All three of those firms have their Corporate Bankers working very closely with the Investment Bankers. Why would you chance going to a smaller boutique over the chance of lateraling at one of the much better BB's?

Just grab coffee's with the IB teams that you hope to lateral with, consistently look at the internal job board and express your interests. Also, get your line manager on board with your move, they can make your transition either really good or really bad.

All in all, you're good man.. just chill out and enjoy that you got in a BB when hiring freezes are in place and banks are cutting workforces.

I didn't mean for it to sound clickbaity, I just see my classmates going on to great investment banks and I'm going to a "lesser role." I know I'm lucky to be in the situation, but I was wondering if passing up on a smaller boutique was a bad idea.
