Part-time or Freelance Work?

Call me crazy, but I just left the private equity job that I pursued for years to join a startup. That said, I have a few months "off" between now and then and I'm ready to explore other roles and learn while making some cash or maybe picking up equity.

Has anyone had any experience getting part-tme or freelance work with the skills that we pick up in investment banking and private equity? I can definitely contribute to strategic decision-making, especially with financial analysis, but I don't know who if anyone is in the market for that type of a service. I know I could also contribute to sales or business development having had that startup experience in the past.

I could see small real estate businesses, startups, and non-profits being able to use the skillsets we've developed, but does anyone have suggestions or maybe a success story or two?
