PE Associate compensation Europe
Does anyone of you have an idea how those figures (fix & bonus) would typically look like in Europe at Associate entry level (London vs. continental Europe)? In particular at the large cap firms?
Very interested to hear your thoughts/experiences.
Private Equity in London: associate compensation
Private equity compensation at the associate varies even within the continental US. Pay also varies from firm to firm. And the size of the firm can usually (not always) be an indicator of the compensation package.
For simplicity, we’ll be comparing first-year associate compensation in New York and London. Since these two cities are global financial centers they are the most comparable.
London Private Equity Associate Compensation
Oaktree | Base: 105.0 | Bonus: 105.0 | All in: 210.0 |
Silverlake | Base:125.0 | Bonus: 170.0 | All in: 295.0 |
New York Private Equity Associate Compensation
Blackrock | Base: 150.0 | Bonus: 170.0 | All in: 320.0 |
Apollo Global | Base:200.0 | Bonus: 170.0 | All in: 300.0 |

I would think for a Megafund somewhere in the range of 75k-85k base salary for a first year associate (2-3 years of banking experience) with exceptions for specialised funds, plus presumably something similar in bonus. This is for London so in sterling.
In Reality its tough to say as it is not really standardised and nobody openly talks about this.
Isn't PE in Europe something that a lot of people pursue right after undergrad though? I have heard from a few European guys on this forum that a lot of kids go straight into PE out of undergrad
GBB's numbers look accurate. 1st year bonus usually around 100% of base, though there are funds on either side of that scale.
Ahhhh you're right haha, I was thinking of continental EU - specifically swiss region. My bad
The us funds with london offices anecdotally pay the same as in the us in usd
total comp of about 100k to 120k is what you get in continental europe.
So apparently the equivalent of 180k dollars all in for a first year PE associate. Isn't that low compared to comp in the US? I'm not complaining, it's sweet comp, but I was under the impression PE paid more in the IS. (I heard Apollo pays 400k all in, which, if true, is staggering)
That's definitely low for the likes of the Euro firms that were mentioned by the OP.
