Post-MBA - Being In a "Dead" Vertical
Unique predicament here...
Has anyone (post-MBA) been in a position where your firm is doing well - but you are in a 'dead' vertical within that firm? By 'dead' - I mean, weak deal partner, many years since a last platform deal, poor track record relative to other verticals?
Has anyone faced this predicament? Specifically curious how everyone would think about the following options?
(A) Staying put, heads down and just keep chugging along (assume comp is not impacted directly by doing deals - carry is shared across the firm regardless of who does the deal). Obvious concern here is that there is a lack of personal / professional growth so there at some point may be an expiration to this option
(B) Try to move to another vertical although this could be tough given each vertical has established members at each level. Would also have to navigate politics / rebuild relationships in the different sector vertical
(C) Basically throw in the towel on the firm and try to lateral.
Appreciate anyone who has experienced this, seen this, or generally has some thoughts on how to approach this.
