Potentially good opportunity

I recently graduated college from a non-target school and with a degree in International Affairs so despite always being interested in this field, I considered myself screwed when it came to anything in this world. However, I recently learned that the person that lived across the street from me while growing up is a SVP at a mid-sized bank and specializes in emerging markets of all things. I reached out to him and he seemed excited and invited me down to the office to come “check everything out”. Would someone like this even have hiring power? I currently work in finance and studied a lot of international economy and business in college. I plan on networking my ass off and trying not to come off as a spaz. I’ve been obsessing over this meeting and have gone over my resume probably 100 times now. I feel like this is my best shot at networking my way into this field. Do I even need to be worrying about it this much? Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

I'd view it as a learning opportunity, with upside for getting your foot in the door for an interview of some sort. It's not so much whether this guy has "hiring power" as much as it is about him providing you with opportunities (learning, networking, maybe interviews), and then it's really up to you to make the most of it.

Thanks, I’m obviously hoping that something can come out of it since this is a dream job for me. I need to stop obsessing over it though and just worry about making a good professional impression.
