Obviously returns are higher generally with PE, but carry seems so hard to come by. In private credit is carry granted more often?

Not necessarily. Also returns in equity are not necessarily that much higher. Sometimes the more high yield/distressed credit funds (not loan 2 own) still return similar high teens
