Private Debt Entry

Does anyone have any insight as to the traditional path to get into Private Debt? I have heard there are multiple paths, but am curious as to what the most applicable field is? I currently work in commercial banking (for the last 12 months) and am wondering if it would be smart to try and make the switch to lev fin or finish out my formal credit training and then try to get in as an associate. Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.
