Reading earning call transcripts?
Hey guys,
Just started as an analyst at a start up hedge fund and it turns out that none of the senior analyst or the PM read or listen to earning calls? I've never came across this in my short stint in the HF industry. Is it weird to think these people are absolute amateurs and I should run fast?
run fast
Well, before ppl tell you to run fast, let's ask ourselves: does Nancy Pelosi read or listen to earnings calls?
They sound like they’re really wired in! I wish I knew who they were. I would love to sell them some “great” products and have themv voluntarily ignore the prospectus.
What's the AUM? What's the investment strategy? What's the background of the other analysts/PMs? Do they at least read the earnings press release and 10-Ks/Qs? Very odd if they invest in equities/credits and don't read the earnings call, but they might have a reason.
AUM is a couple millions around 50. PM background is consulting and yes they read 10K but not the earnings call. Actually never mind, I'm leaving this sh*t
Read the topics on the 14 or 14/A. Then burrow into the Q or K related to it. Meanwhile, watch some BBG news data. FOCUS on what really matters. Knowing the two will teach you how to read between the lines and get the real truth.
We are missing some important info. How many positions does the fund hold in total? How big are these positions? If these positions are small and don't move the needle, it is understandable that they would not read the transcripts given return on time.
