Referrals SZN
Alrighty guys,
That time of the year is coming up. I know there's a thousand threads on referrals, but everything seems conflicting to me. Some say only VPs and MDs can get you the interview. Others say Analysts and Associates have real say in the process. I currently have a lot of great Analyst and Associate connections but not a lot after that. Would 4 Analyst referrals (just an example) get me an interview at a BB?

Depends on the bank. At JPM, An and As have no pull for my school. At MS, An and As have the most pull and are the most involved in recruiting. At BAML, it's pretty spread out from An to VP. This is all for my school.
Once I got to a bank, I realize how much of a shit show it is. There isn’t a place / website to put down names, it’s just HR getting spammed with names. Analysts can have pull and MDs at my BB want analysts to pick since you’ll work under us. But you might get referrals and still not get an interview because hr lost the email
This is highly dependent on the person you are in contact with and the BB. Some BBs rely on analysts for referrals, others don't. In the same vein, not every VP you know will have the right HR contacts so that their referral will carry some weight. Remember, virtually all BBs are massive and just because you know someone "high up" that doesn't mean they know HR and/or are involved in recruiting. As someone else in this thread said, HR gets a million names, but they might not do anything with it because they don't know your referring VP.
I do enough OCR and interviews where I can drop HR a resume and they'll listen, but I also have colleagues that are my same level (and higher) that have zero interest in recruiting and they wouldn't know what to do with your resume, no matter how much they like you.
