Reneging a bank for a non-bank

If I need to renege a bank for another company that is not a bank, should I tell the people at my bank what company it is? What if they ask? For the record, the company I am joining is not in financial services, and the two companies do not compete.

They likely won't find out themselves (especially since you're doing something different), barring some exceptional circumstances. No one is going to spend time trying to figure out what company a future junior employee went to (no upside in finding out this info...) unless they are feeling especially vindictive, in which case you definitely shouldn't tell.

I did the exact thing a month or two ago and said banking wasn't for me and was super honest. Most of the bankers understood and some were understandably upset. I definitely burned some bridges, but it was better to do that then go into something I wasn't excited or interested in. That being said I didn't say specifics, I just gave my rationale for reneging.
