Ron Paul Racist Allegations

Not sure how many of you saw this article in the times (see below), but it was sent to me today. It mainly focuses on the newsletters Ron Paul's firm had published in the 90's, and attempts to slander Paul. There are vague connections and the pseudo-facts the Times is famous for, but the more you read the article, the more unsettling it is. I am a little shocked at just how many different allegations there are. As of now I plan to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries, but a lot of this is really unsettling.

Several decades of voting records and none of that is displayed in his votes or introduced legislation. Dude could be the world's biggest racist/homophobe/whatever but based on his record, as long as he is able to separate personal feelings from doing his job, I don't give a shit. His stance on abortion is a perfect example of this. Dude is pro-life but recognizes that it's not the federal government's job to tell people what to do with their bodies and has said that he will leave it up to the states.

Abusive ad hominem (also called personal abuse or personal attacks) usually involves insulting or belittling one's opponent in order to attack his claim or invalidate his argument.

This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions.

There was a better article on this somewhere else (can't find it anymore) but there should be some concern behind these allegations. The concern is not that Paul might be racist; I find it hard to believe that he is. But the facts were that this newsletter was written by two of his closest advisors/strategists and they together felt that writing these newsletters was a good strategy to better their political position.

I think the concern is that this will look very bad on the GOP in the general election. Paul is already a very controversial figure, this will put him over the top for the swing voters.
