Rosenberg & Cain-Possible Scam and Identity Theft?

Hi All,

Does anyone know anything about this firm, Rosenberg & Cain Partners. I got an email from HR asking me to fill out a background check form + $30 background check fee. I checked out their website (http://www.rosenbergcain.com) and superficially seems legit. However, further research raised the following red flags:

-A simple Google search revealed nothing about the firm (no press releases, no news on business activity, etc.), except a crap ton of internship job postings on job boards.

-No linkedIn profiles for their listed management team

-Ran some of their current portfolio companies through CapIQ, returned false for Rosenberg & Cain as their global ultimate owner

-Ran Rosenberg & Cain through CapIQ, found nothing and the firm doesn’t seem to operate under a DBA.

-Ran the Rosenberg & Cain website through Alexa Web Analytics, found nothing

-No Public records found.

Thoughts?

TL;DR: Don't submit any information or give them any money, it's a scam

It's definitely a scam/ID theft operation... HUGE HUGE Red flags...

I also got the email a few days back, which sounded fishy, so I dug around...

turns out they copied all of investments logos, their infographics, even the headshots of their partners (albeit with different names, so you cannot quickly call them out) and employees from an actual VC based in SF and London, called Francisco Partners. Francisco Partners' references check out on LinkedIn, CrunchBase, several news websites (businessweek being the most famous) and a few other dbs. Anyway I will also notify Francisco Partners of the situation...

if you want check out www.franciscopartners.com

Last note, their "office" in Toronto does not exist, or at least is a dilapidated small office above a store. Just take a look at the Google street view of 148 Yonge st. Don't be fooled by the actual office building across the street, it's the small abandoned building that has a for lease sign... if I'm not mistaken, when I applied their address was also different.

Haha, very nice due diligence. I looked at the team section for the link in the OP and immediately thought "holy shit does DJ from FP have a twin?"

$7bn AUM and can't pay $30 for a background check. I lol'd.

I received the email today and they offered me $85k as first year analyst, and asked me to summit background check at standford management, which costs $20, lol
