Rosenberg & Cain-Possible Scam and Identity Theft?
Hi All,
Does anyone know anything about this firm, Rosenberg & Cain Partners. I got an email from HR asking me to fill out a background check form + $30 background check fee. I checked out their website (http://www.rosenbergcain.com) and superficially seems legit. However, further research raised the following red flags:
-A simple Google search revealed nothing about the firm (no press releases, no news on business activity, etc.), except a crap ton of internship job postings on job boards.
-No linkedIn profiles for their listed management team
-Ran some of their current portfolio companies through CapIQ, returned false for Rosenberg & Cain as their global ultimate owner
-Ran Rosenberg & Cain through CapIQ, found nothing and the firm doesn’t seem to operate under a DBA.
-Ran the Rosenberg & Cain website through Alexa Web Analytics, found nothing
-No Public records found.
Thoughts?
I think you just answered your own question here. Unless everyone is pretty much a hermit, in which case I would not want to work for them anyway.
TL;DR: Don't submit any information or give them any money, it's a scam
It's definitely a scam/ID theft operation... HUGE HUGE Red flags...
I also got the email a few days back, which sounded fishy, so I dug around...
turns out they copied all of investments logos, their infographics, even the headshots of their partners (albeit with different names, so you cannot quickly call them out) and employees from an actual VC based in SF and London, called Francisco Partners. Francisco Partners' references check out on LinkedIn, CrunchBase, several news websites (businessweek being the most famous) and a few other dbs. Anyway I will also notify Francisco Partners of the situation...
if you want check out www.franciscopartners.com
Last note, their "office" in Toronto does not exist, or at least is a dilapidated small office above a store. Just take a look at the Google street view of 148 Yonge st. Don't be fooled by the actual office building across the street, it's the small abandoned building that has a for lease sign... if I'm not mistaken, when I applied their address was also different.
Haha, very nice due diligence. I looked at the team section for the link in the OP and immediately thought "holy shit does DJ from FP have a twin?"
$7bn AUM and can't pay $30 for a background check. I lol'd.
I did the employment verification. What can they do with my info? Also can they have access to my bank account?
Depends on what info you gave to them...doubt they can get access to your bank accounts/credit cards but you could be potentially be a victim of identity theft if you gave them enough info
you need to cancel whatever bank/credit card you used immediately If you gave them your SSN, its not good, they can use that to open credit cards/loans and that could potentially affect
I did close my bank account immediately after reading the commenrts. I don't have a SSN thank god for not being a citizen! lol. Thank you so much for all the help!
I also think it's a scam
The actual URL for the website is: sophie-solomon(dot)squarespace(dot)com
I wonder who this Sophie Solomon character is..
They've updated the partner page to not include pictures. Now the main picture is of senior professionals hired at some insurance company (Barbon).
Quite an interesting scheme. Good thing OP drew attention to this.
im sure a few of us sent emails to francisco partners. i know i did.
This is a joke man. If it smells bad it usually is. Honestly listen to your instinct.
Even if the PE shop is legit and can't make enough money to cover an applicants $30 fee, ya dun goofed.
Received as well sounded sketchy to list an 85K salary in an email without even interviewing or anything. Thanks for the headsup
These crooks tried emailing me today just wanted to bump it to make sure everyone stays away from these criminals.
I received the email today and they offered me $85k as first year analyst, and asked me to summit background check at standford management, which costs $20, lol

Anybody heard of this firm? Reputation? Compensation? Anything? http://www.rosenbergcain.com
Yea, I got their email as well. You need to pay for my background check first, I am hesitating now.
