SA while taking 9 credits during summer

Hello everyone,

I wanted to get someone's input if possible, I wasn't able to find a thread on the topic so I thought I would create one. How manageable are summer classes with a SA position? Last summer I was a SA on the trading floor virtually (thankfully I got the offer to go back this summer) so I kind of know the workload and usually worked about 90+ hours per week, however, I am afraid this summer I don't have much of a choice problem is if I get the offer for FT I need to graduate and a requirement for graduating is taking 9 credits in summer. I would appreciate input and feedback as I am honestly getting very anxious as to what the workload is gonna be and this is just adding more stress to thinking about how getting the FT offer is gonna be.

Firstly, try to calm your anxiety. If you approach the issue with a calm mind, you'll be able to think through things fairly rationally.

I did something a bit different but I'll share my perspective. I did summer research as part of a class alongside by IB SA internship and was able to do both without much hassle. I didn't tell my company that I was taking the credits, but I did tell my university professors. Most of the professors were extremely understanding, and were happy to allow me to turn in assignments late or miss lab meetings occasionally.

I am very much appreciative of your response. I am sorry for sounding like a nervous wreck I suffer from massive anxiety usually in person I hide it very well however I tend to overthink and freak out a little much. However, I'll do what you did and let the professors know thank you for your response.

Thank you for your response. I would usually start at 5AM as I would send out a morning document of what to expect in markets each morning and usually, I would stay on the desk until about 11pm or 12pm and repeat until Saturday. Throughout the day I would work on projects given by HR, Talking to people or working on things for the desk so I did keep busy but assuming from your response I think I may have overdone it. However thank you for your advice and look forward to implementing it this summer.

You sound like a Type A overachiever. With that work-ethic, you are going to be fine wherever you end up. Take a deep breath, focus on what's in your control. Try to pass/fail the classes you need credits in if that's possible to ease the stress. Or, you could take an additional course during your senior winter/spring since you will be done recruiting then.

Best of luck
