Sterling Group in Houston?

Just curious to see if anyone has thoughts on them. Currently an analyst focused on industrials and they seem like a good general industrials name despite being in Houston

Solid shop - I worked there as an Assc. Extremely impressive returns. great people. reasonable hours (~60 hrs/wk if not on live deal). good mix of operational and transaction experience.

Only two reasons to not take this job would be, i) you have to like Houston, and, ii) they NEVER (literally ever in previous 10 years) have brought back an Assc. from BSchool or ever direct promoted an associate. All post-MBAs are consultants/ops people. Have to take the job knowing you need something else in 24-36 months...which can be a bit demotivating taking a new gig and knowing no matter how hard you work, zero chance of promotion.

If you want to work your way up in PE, probably best to look elsewhere. If you want a good experience with good people and then go to BSchool to reset, this is a great place to land.

1. Sterling is one of the largest non-energy shops in Texas ($2B last fund size), great brand name, growing quickly

2. Work life balance isn't terrible from what I hear, though it can be more than some LMM Texas shops

3. Houston isn't terrible, but it's probably better if you went to UT/A&M and already know a ton of people - can be difficult to meet friends if you're not already plugged in
