Success with Selectleaders
Hi all,
I most recently came across select leaders and wanted to see if anyone has had any success landing a job from any of the posts. I've applied to a handful of companies on there but haven't really heard back but from 1 or 2 companies. Any success stories?
bump
It's a hit or a miss. I applied to almost every analyst positions across the US. Had weeks where I was basically shooting in the dark and some weeks I heard back from more than 5-10 places.
I've had about a dozen interviews originally sourced from select leaders, over say 1.5 months. It's the most real estate specific job board I've found so far.
Are there any others out there?
I landed my dream job years ago from Select Leaders, but I didn't just forward my resume. I obsessively looked for new job postings every few hours every day for almost a year. When a job I was looking for came up, I called corporate, got the contact info for the hiring managing director, called him up and asked if I could buy him lunch to "learn about his company". He said I could come in the next day for an interview and I got the job. Not saying this will work for every situation but you have to stand out somehow.
What @AddValue said. It's a start but usually not the complete solution.
AddValue That might be the next step for me to land in a target full service firm. Appreciate the feedback chimps.
I've gotten interviews off Select Leaders. Make sure after you apply you also personally reach out to the principals/hiring manager though to separate yourself from the 100's of resumes they'll receive.
I would go on there. See the listing, go through LinkedIn and see who worked there, find out who was in charge of hiring ect. I didn't just post my resume, I used the boards to find that there were positions available then used my network and sweat to get offers/interviews.
Got my current job through there. My resume was the perfect match. The rest is history.
So, do companies look at resumes submitted via Select Leaders? Apparently they do.
I've gotten loads of interviews off selectleaders, but the higher caliber firms don't use it. It is mostly boutique to mid-tier. For the other 50% of interviews I've Networked....networked.....networked...cold emails, cold calls etc.
Select Leaders is pretty expensive to post on comparatively, so I'd believe most the people posting are serious. II landed one job a while ago off of it.
I am 2/4 in getting interviews for postings on SelectLeaders. It is a great option for real estate job postings. I agree with a lot of other guys on here. Finding the hiring manager and cold calling/networking really makes a difference. That'll help in getting those initial interviews.
What do you talk about after you get them on the phone?
My process is this: I start with the job-posting and find out who the hiring manager is and who is in charge of hiring in HR via LinkedIn. From previous networking, I ask around to see if anyone knows the hiring manager. Usually, I find someone that knows him or her. I've had some people introduce me via email or set-up a quick coffee meeting/phone call. Previous networking really helps when trying to get your name out there. RE is a small world. On the HR side, I usually send a LinkedIn message saying I'm interested in Job X and I'd like to learn more about the role, etc. etc. I attach my resume without mentioning it as well for convenience. They may not respond, but they'll see initiative and it could help get you in the door. I landed my current job because I had met the Head of HR when I applied to a job at the company a year ago and didn't get it. She remembered me and reached out on her own. So when I say "cold call", it's not truly a cold call. I've introduced myself in one way or another to the head of HR or the hiring Partner/Manager. If I had tried to call the Partners that I work for, I probably wouldn't have gotten this job. I would find a way to network my way around to get an introduction. It took me over a year to get a position with a strong investment sales team, but it was all worth it. Good luck in your searches.
Applied to about 5-6 positions outside of my primary market.. No luck yet with SL
i've used SL in the past and have had great success but have a very unique resume that stands out from most people. I would say Linkedin and SelectLeaders are great along with several real estate specific recruiters.
