The Legality of Recording Convos in the Office / Wearing a bug?

During the time I've been working at this hedge fund, I've personally heard an associate say to another friend/collegue that he sabotaged another associate's desk while he wasn't watching.

I've heard a guy tell me (not in writing) that he's been using so-and-so's cubicle phone to make long distance calls to his family in London.

I've heard a quant guy say to someone I assume was his wife, on his cell phone in the bathroom stall that he jacked his office computer and took it home to make it seem like it was stolen and was an excuse for the negligent trades.

My VP in the past who I had a conflict with once threatened me that he was going to sabotage my work and do "horrible shit" to my career. Unfortunately it was spoken and nobody would ever believe me on that one.

And on and on and on. The stories are endless.

I just want to know the legalities of wearing a bug / having a constant digital recorder on me at all times around the office?

Anyone already do this?

haha no, sorry for any confusion. I work at a hedge fund downtown with around $9 Billion AUM. My signature is just something some former classmates of mine started.

This is usually about the time it becomes necessary to bring in 'camping' pictures of you and your buddies sporting M4's, or invite them out to the local mob bar that your childhood friend owns. Fear WORKS.

In all seriousness: save the tapes, nuke 'em if they fuck you, and get the hell out of that place as fast as you can: it's not worth it.
