UFC Turning into WWE

What the heck even happened after the Khabib-McGregor fight?

Ever since his fight with Mayweather, McGregor has been embracing that WWE lifestyle. Look, he's got banter and it's funny to hear him take a laugh at his opponents but he's been taking it too far as of late. I mean Connor got arrested earlier this year for attacking his opponent's bus.

Forget McGregor for now because the other lunatic thought it would be a good idea to jump over the octagon and start brawling with one of Connor's crew members. Are you serious?? People saying that Dillon Danis (the guy that was attacked) insulted Khabib. You won the fight, you are undefeated, why do you care what anyone has to say to you?? Instead, for the first time in UFC history, a winner was announced without being present in the octagon because security had to escort Khabib from the arena. Shameful.

Also, three of Khabib's hooligans got arrested for attacking McGregor after the fight. God damn it, I swear this is what happens after almost every WWE fight, not the damn UFC.

I'm not really a fan of either but this whole exaggerated drama is ruining the UFC in my opinion. I'm pretty sure there are loads of people that like it and maybe that helps get the ratings (McGregor will be making around $50 million from this fight) but it is ruining the company's brand.

Unless it was scripted, I doubt the comparison fits.

The thing is, characters sells. McGregor was one of the first to learn that. Rousey was another, Lesnar is another and he is from WWE. It's the name that sells tickets. You'll be tuning in to watch the second bout, won't you? That's all that matters: it's real and gives you a reason to watch.

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.

Isn't it kind of pointless to be throwing water bottles at one another in the context of, "We're already scheduled for gladiatorial battle"?

Badass fight. Khabib lays out McGregor despite multiple violations from McGregor (short grabbing, cage grabbing, glove grabbing, kneeing on the ground) then goes straight for his groupie Dillon Dannis outside the Octagon right after. Mad props to Khabib. Everyone is ignoring the fact McGregor called Khabib a terrorist (he's Muslim), insulted his Father, and his crew attacking his bus. Can't hate on a man that doesn't take shit from anyone.

Loved waking up to the Facebook, and Instagram feed hammered with "kill your local Muslims." Let the saltiness sink in.

Also Dillon Dannis instigated a lot of this, he was hanging over the Octagon talking shit to Khabib before the fight. Quit treating him like a victim.

I’m glad McGregor got his ass kicked. But up until now Khabib has kept his cool even with all that Conor dolly shenanigans and insulting his religion / family or calling him a terrorist. Maybe it was just adrenaline pumping or last straw thing, but I wished he didn’t go after Danis (even if he did bring it upon himself), cause now there’s all this noise taking away from his decisive win over McGregor. Hopefully they don’t do something stupid like take his title. They’re (UFC / Dana) are already so pro-Conor that it doesn’t take much for them to do something like this.

Agreed on all counts. One thing I'll say is Conor's usual strategy of getting under peoples skin worked wonderfully this time. Khabib completely lost his mind as intended. Only problem is Conor clearly hasn't improved as a fighter in at least 2 years. I'm not sure he even cares about winning anymore though because win or lose he's the biggest draw the sport has.

Had Khabib not lost his mind - accepted the tap, put the fur hat on Joe Rogan & thanked the UFC - today everyone would be talking about how he mauled Conor and is legit one of the greatest EVER.

Other thoughts: Conor has always been respectful post defeat. Now he has everyone right where he wants them, he's still the king of the UFC. He's so good at taking any situation and spinning it to his advantage.

In the end Khabib should have memorized, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me".

I don't know if I really want to see Conor v Khabib 2. I would love to see if Tony Ferguson can do anything to Khabib/Conor.

There is no need to complain when you pay for a fight, and a fight happens. It is like buying a 6-pack chicken nuggets meal but you open the box, and there's 7 pieces. As long as no one get hurt, these sort of brawls are great.

The two Khabibs cronies who jumped in the cage, or ANYONE, who threw a sucker punch are the scum of the earth.

This. As I said below I'm very pro-Conor, but I actually don't have a problem with Khabib jumping the cage. The two dudes that jumped in to sucker punch Conor are a different story.

People are shocked largely because they don’t know who Khabib/his team is. They are from dagestan and chechnya, where honor comes above all else, quite literally (you can be killed for saying the kind of shit mcgregor said in the buildup)... they dont fuck around. So, unlike western fighters where money is the end goal, these guys are there to show they are the best, gain respect and make their people proud. Thats why Khabib refuses to engage in trash talk.

I don’t want to see a rematch not only because the fight wasn’t even close (just domination), but also because I’m tired of seeing this bum mcgregor hold up one of the weight divisions with the most potential in the sport.

I might be in the minority on this, and in fairness I'm very pro-Conor, but I didn't see it as domination at all. Khabib was clearly better on the ground and Conor was clearly better standing up. Conor won round 3 and I was actually surprised he was tapped after that.

With all due respect, if you can't see how Khabib dominated the entire fight with the exception of maybe 2 strikes from mcgregor, you don't know shit about the fight gam. Not only did Khabib dominate, but he dominated while mcgregor broke rules on several occasions and got away with it (glove grabbing, fence grabbing, some suspicious elbows and back-of-the head strikes).

Spot on.

You can't have it both ways - if you want to compete in an American sport on American territory where American rules apply, then you play by the rules. If McGregor wants to go fight in Chechnya or Dagestan where they'd rather kill themselves than let some stranger that doesn't matter say anything about their 3rd cousin twice removed, then they can play by those rules where they are from on their turf. A shit move is a shit move.

"Who am I? I'm the guy that does his job. You must be the other guy."

Reasons I'd say it was...

  1. Camera being zoomed in on/being all aroundKhabib the entire time when he jumped the cage, then switching at the perfect time to catprue Khabib's crony's jumps in the cage and subsequent brawl with McGreggor.

  2. First thing Khabib does after winning the biggest fight of his life if throw is listen to McGreggor's cornerman's trash talk from the other side of the cage (place was rocking, not sure how he hear him initially), continue to trash talk him, throw his mouth guard at him, and then climb the cage to brawl with him

  3. Khabib jumps the cage but doesn't do anything, which wasn't due to security, as they were late getting over there after initially standing around to get between the two of them

  4. Khabib's crony jumps the cage and gets 3 punches to McGreggor, completely blindsiding him and yet none of land close to cleanly.

  5. They let both speak after the fight in a press conference after all hell broke loose in a post match melee reminiscent of a gang street brawl

  6. McGreggor doesn't press charges against the dudes who took complete blindside shots to his head after an exhausting fight where he was dominated

  7. McGreggor tweets about a rematch a couple hours after the fight ends

  8. UFC outside of McGreggor is hurting. Biggest draws are gone in GSP, Silva, and Brock (although he's coming back for one more fight)

  9. This will be the biggest ppv buy rate of all time and a rematch would do even bigger numbers, especially with the added circumstances surrounding the ending

I sat ring-side and it was Connor who threw the first punch. Dillon, Connor’s BJJ coach had been insulting Khabib the entire fight. He shut-up at the end but Khabib's manager who was seated behind the Connor corner, made his way to the Octagon and pushed Dillon.

This pissed off Dillon, he reignited his shit talking and beckoned for Khabib to fight him. Khabib scaled the fence and at the same time Khabib’s cousin Abubakar and Connor chased after him. As they both sat on top of the fence yelling at Khabib, Connor threw the first punch which landed directly in his eye and Abubakar retaliated by smacking him several times with an empty water bottle. Security pulled Abubakar away but not before Connor landed another solid punch.

This enraged Khabib’s team as Abubakar is an older guy. Khabib’s first teammate rushed to stop security from pulling away Abubakar, but did a 180 and rushed towards Connor. Expecting retaliation for throwing the first punches, Connor threw a punch which landed and moved out of the way from the teammates punch.

Zubaira, who was in the red shirt and scheduled to fight Artem Lobov (Connor’s teammate) in October, scaled the fence during the melee with the first teammate and hit Connor with multiple shots to the backside.

Last thing: Connor apologized twice during the fight, but Khabib wasn’t having any of it. Too bad it’s not captured on camera.

What concert costs 45 cents? 50 Cent feat. Nickelback.

From what I've last heard, Khabib didn't get paid as Nevada Athletic State Commission withheld his earnings from the card. He was supposed to make at least 2M and now he may faced a possible 2M fine.

That said, a less extreme WWE-like incident was when Brock Lesnar pushed DC in the octagon after DC's match with Stipe for the heavyweight belt. WWE 101. It would be some funny shit if they gave Jon Jones the Lesnar fight.

Finally, how come nobody is talking about the Pettis and Ferguson fight? That one was entertaining!
