Umich LSA Econ vs BC CSOM
I am feeling pretty conflicted right now. I have already been accepted into BC's CSOM and was just accepted into UMich's LSA. I am unsure whether I should take the chance to transfer into Ross as I didn't know about the preferred admit option until later. Here are my stats since I would like to know what chance I have to transfer into Ross. I realize that I will need around a 3.5 gpa to even be considered and was also wondering how easy that would be at UMich as an econ major.
SAT: 1510
Unweighted GPA: 3.82
Weighted:4.3
I have gotten A's in AP Calculus and Econ classes at a very hard school so I feel like I may do well in those courses which are requirements for the Ross transfer.
I am also unsure of LSA's econ major potential salary vs BC's CSOM's potential salary. There is the argument however that even if I don't go to Ross undergrad I can always get a MBA at a good business school if I end up going to UMich.
Thanks in advance!
I don't know if everyone knows this but Ross recently changed its transfer policy to have 80% be preferred admit and will accept 100 as transfers. I have read people say that while the number of possible transfer spots will be decreased so will the number of transfer applicants. Can anyone shed light on what qualifications would be good for the transfer/ how good my competitors would be relative to my stats etc (I am OOS from one of the hardest high schools in the country btw).
Additionally can anyone shed light on career placement opportunities for LSA econ majors with a minor in Ross since that also could be an option for me if the Ross transfer doesn't work out.

Ok thanks- do you have any tips for getting into Ross? i.e take easier classes to get a higher gpa or take harder classes to look more impressive etc?
Also what level of applicant will I be competing with for one of those 100 spots?
Thanks in advance!
I’m a rising sophomore in Ross and I have many friends who applied to transfer into Ross under the new system. The numbers are so small there’s no guarantee. Also freshman LSA classes are easy (if you genuinely work hard which isn’t easy to do at a school as fun as Michigan haha).
But really you don’t need to be in Ross to be competitive for recruiting. The key is to identify what jobs you want, craft a resume optimal for said position and network your way to an interview. Michigan alumni will support you whether you’re in Ross or not.
Plus football season is gonna be great this year. Patterson might even bring home the Heisman.
Feel free to PM.
I don't go to Michigan, but I know someone who transferred to Ross from a state school. Also, UofM alum don't give 2 shits if you were in Ross or not so it shouldn't be a big problem while networking. You just need a good reason why you chose Econ
I just picked Econ since that was the closest to business I felt before learning of the mathematical finance major which I may end up doing.
This makes you sound like you didn't even know that Michigan has a business school.
Yes as I explained above I didn't know about the preferred admission option to Ross until later.
