Unpaid internship in another state
Hi guys,
I'm currently a Economics major at a private top 20 university. I received an offer at a independent financial advisory firm in Dallas (I live in Atlanta) from an alum I found on our school network. Only problem is, it is unpaid therefore I might actually have to pay out (for housing, transportation). I don't really have any other "good" or "relevant" offers for my major or career right now, plus I'm a sophomore so it's harder to get an internship compared to juniors. Should I take this for the experience and resume building or seek other options?
Thanks
is money a problem? thats your answer.
For some of us lol. There are some kids out there that have everything set up by mommy and daddy so they can afford expensive summers living in a 1 bd in nyc not giving a fuck that they have no salary. Personally in this case wherever the office is, if you can find rent for like 500$ then I would say do it, spend 3000-4000 grand but get valuable experience if not then do PWM. Also you can maybe ask for a stipend?
I can do it but just not sure if it's worth it. My family income is 50k/year so it's definitely not ideal to spend this money. But I do really need experience because I've had no prior experience in finance before, so this will leverage me up to a good internship next summer.
Dude, it's not too late to get a regional PWM internship at ML or something in Atlanta. You have a chance of getting paid there and you wouldn't have to move
if you are sort of paranoid and antisocial and cant put yourself together and... ,etc. then go ahead to dallas...
^ how does one apply? I don't see the listing on my school network.
Just applied online at BOAML website
screw websites. put on a suit, carry your resume in one of those fancy leather folders, and walk into local PWM offices in ATL and see if you can drop off your resume. that's how i did it, and i literally got a call back the next day.
DO NOT pay for housing/transportation for an unpaid internship.
Lol Emory University I was thinking about going there too bro but it was too expensive. You guys get any on campus recruiting?
lol, judging by this post, I don't think he knows how to use that yet.
oh wait nvm forgot it was financial advisory when i was writing my post... ya I would consider other options...
My family's income is like 50k/year, so're kind of poor. The rent in the area is cheap, around $500 per month. I will be working for LPL Financial, so it is financial advising. The president of the firm is a alum from my university and we have had very long conversations on the phone so I know him well.
