Upcoming Series 7 - Training Consultants
Hey Everyone,
New to the site. Probably a topic discussed many times over, however I would still appreciate any insight. I failed my Series 7 by one percentage point a little under 3 weeks weeks ago and my retake is in exactly two weeks. There were extenuating circumstances that likely lowered my score but thats not why I'm here.
I just want people's thoughts and experiences on training consultants' exams. I have been barely passing, scoring in the low to high 70s the three times I've taken it.
I feel like I've improved and was hoping for a little breathing room. I am pretty nervous since my job is on the line.
Are these tests designed to be harder than the real thing? How do people feel about the program? I have access to passperfect and kaplan as well. I would not recommend kaplan to anybody - it is, in my opinion not as difficult as the real thing.
I work 8-5 everyday so I only have evenings to study. Any feedback on how to best approach these next two weeks in addition to thoughts on their exams is greatly appreciated!
hey jeff, I was in your shoes until I passed the exam yesterday. I studied two weeks and thought I could easily pass the test, turned out I got 71%. Although my boss wasn't pissed at all,the pressure was palpable.
I used Knopman and I found that although the practice tests were not as helpful as I would like them to be, the textbook itself was sufficient. My advice to you, don't spend too much time studying those questions or practice tests, but really try memorizing the regulations and laws, Reg M, D, A, 144, 147, m&a rules, private placement, tender offers, safe harbor 10c-b, how many copies/days you need to do xyz before certain transactions, what you can/can't do during different periods etc. Things get tricky when you see reg 144 & reg 144a, and there is absolutely no fucking way you could figure out the difference between these two without memorizing them. You will feel confused if you don't know these regulations by heart. If you know 80% of these rules & regs, you will have no problem of passing the exam, assuming you can do simple math.
Good luck, buddy.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Regs were definitely something I wasn't prepared enough for the first time around. After getting my series 6 the following week I feel a little better about them. A surprising amount of margin and suitability questions too.
