VC Comp to Increase Post-IB Raises?
Hi All,
Curious for thoughts on implications for VC comp post-IB raises across the street and if anyone has seen raises in response at their VC/growth equity shops.John Gannon's 2020 survey indicated mean of $80k for Analyst and $118k for Associate last year. VC has always seen a discount to PE, driven by smaller fund sizes, favorable work-life-balance and overall desirability for the position, however it is challenging to imagine a world where it can be so substantially below the new baseline for IB salaries.

Note, aforementioned figures are salary only - PitchBook pulled together a report on bonuses in 2020. Median was $20-28k for analyst, $40k Assoc., $60k associate.
Are those figures total comp?
No, salary only - notably, PitchBook pulled together a report on bonuses in 2020. Median was $20-28k for analyst, $40k Assoc., $60k associate.

In principle, the way I generally think about it is that base salary should meet IB standard, but that bonus should be the point where there is the delta in total comp (not accounting for carry).
