Verizon FLDP (internship) Upcoming Interview

Does anyone have any experience with Verizon's FLDP summer internship recruitment? I have a phone interview (30 mins) upcoming in a couple days, and I have been assuming it would be majority fit-oriented. However, this is my first real interview for any business position (I'm a sophomore) so I honestly don't know what to actually expect.

If it helps, the interview I have is not with Verizon people directly, but with one of their recruitment outsourcing firms (TheWorkPlaceGroup).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yea it is weird. The on-campus interviews at my school already took place (which I didn't participate in), but I just got the email today for the phone interview. Like I said, it was from the people they outsource to, so I'm not quite sure what's going on.

I can't say exactly, but my interpretation is that it's moderately competitive. I go to a semi-target and, out of the many that inevitably applied, they had on-campus interviews for about 20 kids. I don't know how many of these were invited for a second round.

But I'm fairly confused about why they contacted me now, so late in the game. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. If they have kids already lined up for second rounds, why would they want to have a phone interview with me?

Yeah that's what i'm trying to figure out myself, I had my phone interview about a month ago. When i talked to the HR woman, she said that verizon had 3 dates for second round interviews, and that March 9th was the last date. That's interesting tho, i did not know that verizon did on campus interviews for first rounds. I go to a target, and I was under the assumption that everyone was phone interviewed for the first round. I would probably suggest that you email the HR person back just to make sure that Verizon is holding more second round dates so you can get things cleared up.

In your case, I'm guessing you will be favored even over the OCR kids. It seems that maybe they don't even bother recruiting at target schools because they haven't experienced a high enough yield rate to justify it. But that's just my view based on very limited information.

Can you shed any light on how your phone interview went? Was it with someone from The WorkPlace Group? The woman who emailed me about the interview had WorkPlace Group all over her email signature.

The interview was very simple. It was with an HR specialist from the Workplace group and they asked generic questions about leadership experiences, why you want to intern with Verizon, etc. It's nothing difficult, and I wouldn't sweat it too much. If there's anything else you need help with let me know. I'm just really worried about the second round on Friday now, its scheduled to be 3 hours long lol

Wow, 3 hours is pretty long. Is that all one run-through or are there breaks? That seems like a lot.

Regarding the phone interview, what would you say was the most difficult question you had to answer, or the one that made you think the most?

rmm77,

I had my interview this morning, and I cleared everything up. In case you were still curious, Verizon is holding another interview session on March 23rd in Basking Ridge (the HR woman said 30 candidates would be selected). I'm assuming this is actually the final interview date, because she also said notification of an offer would be given at the beginning of the next week if I'm selected to interview on the 23rd.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier about the phone interview, but thanks for updating me. That's pretty late for a second round. Either they have not been satisfied with other candidates or Verizon just does things late. Also i'm wondering how many candidates they select if they're interview 30 at a time. I'll update you tomorrow after my second round tomorrow
