We are all misreading what guaranteed FT means!?

This is just a theory that I wanted to sense check:

I’m incoming Citi SA in one of the hub cities and like many got the email with the guaranteed FT mention.
I think we may be misinterpreting it’s meaning, I think it’s saying Citi guarantees that even with all of this going on, if you graduate, and you meet the min requirements, you could be open for a FT job. Its not an automatically sure ticket but there will be a job there present.

The reason I think this is because with all conversations I keep having with team members with analyst, associates and VPs, they continuously use the tone of ‘if you convert’ ‘if you do well’. HR also hasn’t elaborated further at all and no one has mentioned anything about it beyond this email which is strange.

Does anyone here work for Citi FT and know from an insider perspective how confirmed and conditionality on this is??

I think they've been as clear as could be mate, they've announced it on their very own Linkedin page and it's been widely reported on news outlets. Sleep easy my friend, sometimes good things do actually happen without some hidden evil clause.

I would also add that even if they do convert 100% of the SA class to FT, chances are they cut down a few months in

Banks have been preparing for a recession for the last year or two (shown by lower FT rates last summer than in past years) and some banks that historically had higher return rates of 80-90%+ only hire as many SA as they think they'll need FT the following year. Chances are Citi is in this boat and planned to give most interns offers anyways so did this to keep it fair. Obviously any very poor performers as interns/full time could get trimmed especially in a recession but this isn't some conspiracy to fire half the class right after they hit the desk full time.

let’s just say if you don’t perform well/don’t work hard over the summer, you likely won’t receive a FT offer.

Interesting how you're an Associate 2 in Restructuring but also an incoming SA at Citi.

Didn't think it was possible to be demoted ~5 years to an intern

Funniest

Yeah it's pretty odd when people are anonymous and lie about their job titles
