"Wearing brown could cost you your job"

My SA this summer is likely to be in person according to HR and I'm trying to build a larger formal wardrobe - what do you think about this article claiming that "The worst kept ‘secret’ in the finance industry is that you should never wear brown shoes."

I always thought that a nice balance between wearing brown and black shoes was a good thing, especially with the classic banker blue.

Am I out of the loop on this? Or are brown shoes really that much of an offense lmao

No brown in London Town but plenty of US folks wearing navy and brown together all the damn time thinking they look like a Suitsupply ad (operative word = think)

just make sure your belt matches

Back when going to the office was a thing, the brown Gucci Jordaan horsebit leather loafer was my brown shoe of choice. I'd be interest if someone thought that was a bad look? But as an earlier poster already said, just make sure the shoes and the belt match, and you're all good. Don't be wearing brown shoes with a black belt. And don't wear brown shoes with a black suit. Check that, don't wear a black suit, period.
