What does an analyst at an AM firm do?
Well I've accepted an offer from an AM firm with 2B aum, and I was curious what the roles of the first year analyst would entail. Well I just be churning out monthly statements? Rebalancing portfolios? Pitching investment ideas? Summarizing our performance to pitch to clients?
get lunch get coffee hand out junk mail annoy people who actually have work to do sexually harrass HR chicks avoid getting fired
You'll watch portfolios and work on re-balancing spreadsheets when things get out of whack; didn't they explain in the interview. What do you think you will be doing?
A lot of people make out analyst positions to be a boring grind of doing shit for other people. No doubt you'll be doing a lot of grunt work but you can make of it what you put in. In my experience a lot of analysts don't take the initiative to above and beyond and request more responsibility.
They pretty much told me what I posted, but I was curious whether that was accurate, or what other people's experiences were with AM.
