What happens to international students from Canada?
Hey, I'm an international student (from a South Asian country) who will most likely be going to the Ivey business school in Canada for my undergraduate degree this year. I was just wondering if US investment banks are still hiring from Ivey, or whether the updated TN visa regulations will screw me over.
I apologise if this is too blunt, but I was super hyped about Ivey because of their pipeline to US firms, but I guess I'll have to start looking into the IB scene in Toronto now. At least that won't be too difficult for international students right? Thanks!
On the INTL side + Canada, shouldn't be a huge issue. Do you have PR yet or?
I haven't even moved to Canada yet, I'm still in high school (in Asia). Will getting PR help me get Toronto IB jobs? And is it really that hard to get IB jobs in the US from Ivey nowadays, even in less popular areas like LA?

You know the TN visa is only for Canadian citizens right? Even before the visa guidance changes, I've never heard of any international students studying in Canada managing to place in the U.S.
Even for non-financial jobs? e.g. In the tech industry in LA, etc.
You know that visa eligibility is tied to your citizenship right
not eligible for TN if you're not Canadian. you'll have to go the dreaded h1 route. if your plan is to go to the US for work, go to the US for school.

But is it a hard process in general? I don't want to go to Ivey only to come back home after graduation.
Kind of a weird question given we have absolutely no idea what your background is. If you have room temp IQ, then everything is going to be hard. If you're the second coming of Lord Bezos, then it will be the opposite.
Canadian IB is much more network focused purely because there aren't as many positions around FWIW.
No shit it's hard. It's a high-paying job and it's extremely competitive - even if you go to a prestigious Canadian program like Western Ivey.
Are you telling us that if you don't get an investment banking job in Toronto or the U.S. then you're just going to fly back home because everything else "isn't worth it"?
Easier than the US? Yes - given that there are plenty of internationals studying in US schools who would get first look. That said, because US firms have stopped hiring from Ivey due to the increased scrutiny, some of the best candidates are now in the Canadian IB pool, meaning it's more competitive now. But if you go to Ivey, you will get looks at a lot of good jobs - whether it's IB or not will rest on how competitive you / the field is .
1) id say get ur PR man cuz then you can acc work in Canada w/out work visa and citezenship optionality in the LR (lot of international kids dont know that) 2) yes you most likely wouldn't be looking into US IB w/out canadian citezenship but you might be looking at Global banks in Toronto (quite a lot of them) 3) US banks are still going to be doing OCR at ivey and visa wont be a problem (i dont think)
