When should be my starting date?
So I've a few options for my starting date this year at a top firm: July, August or September. To those consultants who've already started working...does it matter when I start? Would I lose out to my peers if I were to start in September as opposed to August or July? The partners at my firm basically recommended taking time out of b-school and to start in September, but I'm wondering if I may lose out in the long run if I start 1-2 months behind some of my peers.
Besides suffering some potential jokes as your fellow A1's (or AA1's) become A2's a couple months early, the effects are probably minimal.
Start in September and enjoy the extra time off. Also worth noting: August is often a slow period since clients (and partners) typically take vacation then. You're much more likely to have lots of options to choose from case-wise in September.
