Where to Work in Trading this Summer?
Hi,
I am going to be working as a summer analyst at a BB firm in NYC come June. I know that I will be working in Fixed Income Sales and Trading, and I have been keeping track of the markets very closely. Still, I am just a Junior in college and need all the help I can get. Does anyone have any advice/predictions on which areas will be the most interesting and exciting this summer?
I am a Mathematics and Economics double major, so I am not afraid of anything technical, though I also do not want to be pigeon-holed into an area where I won't interact with tons of people all day, as I am very sociable and very interested in networking thoroughly this summer. Thanks for any help you can give.

Credit Derivatives
"Oh - the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion?"
Fixed income overall will be very interesting. Distressed, obviouslly. High Yield and financial high grade have seen a retrenchment of buyers, and convincing people to buy and proposing trade ideas will be a great learning experience. Same can be said about structured finance, short-term, etc.. tons of place to learn.
If I were you I'd look into property derivatives. It's a pretty new product and no one is really specialized in it yet.
I assume you'll have a rotation... although it's neither the sexiest nor the most mathematically complex, I'd definitely make one of the rotations w/ a rates desk.
"although it's neither the sexiest nor the most mathematically complex, I'd definitely make one of the rotations w/ a rates desk."
can be pretty complex actually.
how complex?
as complex as pretty much anything out there. many of the top quants are focused on rate and rate hybrid modelling.
pretty: you'll find that most 'quants' are in fixed income. that's for a good reason.
