Which Bain & CO department/service line is the most profitable ?

Dear WSO users,

Recently I was looking at Bain's website to see the different departments they have and was wondering which department is their most precious and profitable. I believe that the more important your department is to your company(bring in more money/clients to the company), the more importance you get as an employee of that department(e.g. S&O of Deloitte). Could anyone from Bain or anyone with any insight knowledge give their thought on this ? I have listed their departments below and I believe it's correct. Thanks.

Consulting Services:

Advanced Analytics
Agile
Change Management
Corporate Finance
Customer Strategy & Marketing
Digital
Information Technology
Mergers & Acquisitions
Operations
Organization
Performance Improvement
Private Equity
Strategy
Sustainability
Transformation

The services you listed are not independent functions within Bain, unlike the Big Four where their strategy teams are separate from their other consulting offerings. If you are a consultant at Bain, you could be on a strategy project followed by an operations or due diligence case.

The only separate group listed is Advanced Analytics, which houses the data analytics teams. They work on generalist Bain consulting cases, but the work they do is around big data, surveying, etc.

Gimme the loot

University mates work there and from what I gather Strategy, Performance Improvement and Private Equity are the main revenue drivers (in no particular order in absolute terms).

Private Equity seems, however, to be more profitable than the rest.

You're looking at this the wrong way. At Bain you are hired in as a generalist & aren't aligned to a particular practice area. In 3 years, I've worked in a number of practices (see list below) & it's not uncommon to have a similar experience regardless of office.

Teams I've worked in: - Private Equity - Advanced Analytics - Strategy - Operations - M&A - Organization - Performance Improvement - Sustainability

I see. I understood the concept now. From the departments that you have worked, could you tell which one is the most profitable for both the company and the individual? Which one makes most money/revenue/business for the company ? Because I believe the more money a department makes for a company, the more important it is for the company hence it would be taken extra care by the company. Correct me if my idea/thought is wrong. Thanks.
