Which path do you prefer

BS. Carnegie Mellon (Finance)->Deloitte/Accenture for 2 years->MBA Carnegie Mellon->Attempt to land MBB

or

BS. Carnegie Mellon (Finance)->MBA Carnegie Mellon->Attempt to land MBB

Most MBAs require work experience to get in/be a competitive candidate. Also, work experience makes you a better candidate for MBB. MBB are more likely to give an interview to a person with work experience than a person with zero work experience.

Why the hell would you want an MBA right out of UG. You are not going to be respect by your fellow classmates, you will not be marketable for associate level positions, total waste of you're time. MBA is not an academic degree, if you want a masters then do the MS in Comp Finance.

I was just wondering because my friend got into the MBA program after UG. ( He had loads of internships though)

"Tepper MBA has a 3+2 program for their undergrad students."

That is the program he is doing. Would it hurt him because he went ahead and got his MBA?

For MBB consulting, yes. Not having prior full-time work experience is a huge barrier to getting a post-MBA associate-level position. I've been told this directly by recruiters from McK and BCG.

I agree with the rest of the posters. You definitely want to get some solid work experience first, and then push for the MBA. Additionally, is there any reason why you are set on CMU for your MBA as opposed to any of the other top 15 schools. With some solid work experience, a good GPA from CMU u grad and solid letters/essays, you will be competitive (of course this is a generalization and high level view) for top 10 programs. I wouldn't be so quick to jump right back to your u grad for your MBA (unless we're talking top 2-5 b school). Regardless of b school preference, however, you definitely want some solid work experience first.

I know where you're coming from. I understand the desire to get an MBA and feel like you're ahead of the curve/game. But after working over 2 years in consulting, I appreciate a lot of "lessons" I've learned along the way. School is great, you learn a lot of useful lessons you can apply to work, but working in the "real world" is vastly different and changes the way you view the world and career.

Take the full time position. Do well, learn, and advance. Then apply for B-school. But why are you limiting yourself to only 2 years and back to CMU? Why not, do well, move up and/or lateral transfer, work 4/5 years and go to Top 5-10 MBA.

What is with the 2 yrs rush?

Thanks for the advice guys!

Just one last question. My friend is already in the program and based on your comments he won't be given a position as an associate at an MBB. Would he be able to receive a position lower than an associate such as an analyst and be able to work his way up to an associate in 2-3 years?

That's not how it works. Companies recruit for specific positions. If you want to start as an analyst - you should've done that straight from undergrad.

MBA w/o WE is worthless. You'll have nothing to contribute during case studies and the companies wanting to recruit you will be slim and none.

Anyway, does MBB even actively recruit from Tepper?

Ok thanks. I'm a noob when it comes to this so I really appreciate the help.

And MBB does recruit at Tepper. Here is a list of where Tepper grads have gone in the last couple years.

Any school that would let you into their MBA program without work experience (with few exception) is not a school you want to go. You get an MBA for the brand and the network, maybe for a little refreshment on certain skills, but most definitely not for a knowledge jump.

Tell you're friend, from me : Welcome to the world of over educated and under paid.
