Will a Wealth Management Internship help me land a job/internship in S&T or IB?
I am a sophomore at Villanova University hoping to eventually land a job in S&T or possibly IB. I am curious as to whether or not an internship in WM will help me get an internship in a field I am more interested in?
If you do not have a S&T or IB internship it is good. Its very common for students to have PWM internships as sophomores

You will most likely be cold calling most of the time. I actually believe cold calling is something everyone should experience early in their career. It is a great way to get comfortable on the phone, sell yourself and build up your confidence.
One thing to take advantage of is the corporate directory, use this to your advantage. You can also ask the FA's you work for if they could introduce you to anyone
Yes. Having any sort of finance internship as a freshman/sophomore will be advantageous for landing a more relevant internship in the future.

Literally in the exact same position as you (except in Canada). Would love to here the communities input. I'd suggest looking at creative ways to improve the business and just be helpful. Management likes it when you're thinking. Can anyone in your branch connect you to someone in IB? I was lucky enough to talk to a campus recruiter for my firm's IBD.

I am working an unpaid internship at an AM group this summer. The guy who founded the firm used to work for a pretty reputable hedge fund in town and had interns who worked in a similar role for him (and also have placed into very respected regional IBD). Because his new shop does a wide variety of work, I'll just call it an AM firm. However, from what I can tell, it seems more in-depth than other AM internships.
I'll be doing "equity research" on smallish-midcap companies and my understanding is that my work will consist of building EPS models, helping out with researching ideas, listening in on earnings calls, etc. I don't think he really works with DCFs very much at all, and other IBD valuation methods don't seem to be in any way related to what he's doing.
My plan is to go through SA recruiting in the fall from a non-target with a mediocre GPA. I was wondering if I could get any advice on spinning the whole EPS modeling to IBD angle. Also working a BO internship elsewhere two days a week because it's paid, and wondering if it would be advantageous to emphasize that, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

I think it can be spun easily. All you need to talk about is how you researched an industry, business models, performed company due diligence, became more familiar with financial statements, became better at projecting results, etc.

I have just got off an internship at a top AM/HF on the street in NYC, but the offer rate was 25% this year. The reason why I didn't get an offer is the Head MD told me that they didn't know if this was the right career for me, but they told me my performance was one of the best out of the group and that they were happy to help me out in any way possible. Absolutely no negative feedback from any of the MDs.
How can I make the switch to IBD (I go to school in London and I'm looking for a job here), and what do I do when they say why are you not returning to top AM firm XYZ for FT in NYC?
Personally, I think "they didn't know if this was the right career for me" just means "you are a good performer, but there's just something about you (e.g. your personality) that we don't like". Essentially, you did the job well but some people in the group didn't like you as a person.
Yeah. Sounds like you just didn't fit in. You probably just tried TOOO hard. It happens.

Yea I told some of the juniors / interns that I was looking at IBD.
