Wisconsin Passes Anti-Collective Bargaining Bill

WSJ: Wisconsin Republicans Bypass Democrats on Collective Bargaining

The Reps got around the quorum by 'stripping' the fiscal elements of the bill, which means they can pass it with a lower quorum.

I'm not sure how the parts of the bill they passed doesn't count as 'fiscal' especially given this quote:

"Tonight, the Senate will be passing the items in the budget repair bill that we can, with the 19 members who actually do show up and do their jobs," said Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, a Republican, in a statement.

"Those items include the long-overdue reform of collective bargaining needed to help local governments absorb these budget cuts," as well as increasing the amount of money public employees will have to pay for their pensions and health care premiums.

Regardless, Dems are ticked and claims it violates some open meeting law whatever that may be.

Just for fun, here's MSNBC's story on the matter... I think it's funny that it sounds a lot more accusatory than WSJ's:

MSNBC: GOP rams anti-union bill through Wis. Senate

THANK GOD!!!

And you're right Nobama, they passed the non-financial measures today so the increases in how much they pay for their benefits will come later. But the unions already agreed to it before, so it will probably pass.

Reality hits you hard, bro...

The open meeting law dictates that at least 20 members of hte senate have to be present for a vote. Go cry me a fucking river that they got around it when you arent doing your fucking job.

Yeah, but if you're going to rules lawyer the shit out of the system, at least have the foresight to do it right. Bipartisan criticism just in case someone is unsure.

“In 30 minutes, 18 state senators undid 50 years of civil rights in Wisconsin,” said Mark Miller, the leader of the Senate Democrats who fled to Illinois on Feb. 17 to block just such a vote from occurring.

HAH!

On Feb. 17 Mark Miller undid 234 plus years of American democracy by fleeing the state to Illinois.
