WSJ Subscription
Do you guys have a subscription to WSJ? It's like $25 a month, pretty expensive for a student. Any ways around this? I can barely read the first page of the articles until I get to the subscription content
Do your companies pay for it?
$25/month is not expensive even for a student. That's like a 24 pack and a pizza
Yes, student as well. Got the discount student package. Worth it.
I'll throw a tip in that everyone posts in every thread ever about WSJ subscriptions: Google the article's name and click on the link and you'll be able to read it.
Also talk to your school, they should either have a discount or sometimes even have a certain amount of subscriptions allocated to the school
every MD or VP I have talked to and asked for advice has all answered with the same remark...."Read the WSJ everyday, it is worth the subscription"
Student rate is like $100/yr for both print and online together. Call and ask or look for the link online. You can keep renewing it at the same rate.
I didn't say Bloomberg wasn't better or that WSJ was beyond reproach, just saying what was told to me
Thanks for the responses. Will take a look at student rate. I've already been using reuters but will use Bloomberg as well now
I chose between WSJ and the Economist and went with the latter. Best decision I've ever made for my intelligence. With the student discount it comes out to about $30 - $40 for a six month subscription.
Looked at a bunch of threads and saw the same, probably going with Economist. thanks
Several banks give out WSJ subscriptions to employees, FWIW. I'd say that it's generally worth it, but you can just use Google to navigate around WSJ without a subscription.
I don't think the google search things works anymore
Still works. I just tried it out. Make sure to wrap the article title in quotes.
Read the financial times and the economist. The only thing the WSJ has going for it is the beautiful name. It's so prestigious. It's the WALL STREET JOURNAL. You know what I mean? It's written for WALL STREET. It's the journal of the greatest street to have ever been built. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up...
Anyway, other than the name the FT and Economist are both vastly superior.
No one ever asks in interview "Tell me about something you saw in FT/Economist/Bloomberg/Whatever this morning". WSJ is more US focused compared to FT and goes lot more in detail about specific companies than Economist.
Solution: Read something in The Economist, say that you read it in the WSJ, sound way more intelligent than if you actually were talking about something you read in the WSJ.
I like The Economist the best, followed by FT as well
